View Full Version : Will a seperates 5.1 system sound better them my digitheatre.
Ive been thinking. If i sell my digitheatre for about £150 (its the new silver upgraded version) 7 months old. I can add some funds and buy one of those Sony DBR 940 Amps (not sure about number here) people are always selling on here. My question is would even dolby digital be better through this amp and some decent speakers then my videologic digitheatre. I know the DTS question has many different answers so im not even gonna ask that one. Ive changed my room around now so my speakers are in a perfect square shape like recommended but it now seems just not quite powerful enough.
My room is 16x16 foot roughly.
Yes, a seperates system will indeed be better than a Digitheatre, but it does depend how much you are willing to spend, to a degree.
You'd really be looking at spending £300 as a minimum for speakers to do the 940 justice though, and even then it'd be special offer stuff.
Something like two pairs of Mission 700, a 70c1 and a Paradigm PDR10 can be had for around £300.
Substitute the Missions for Kef Cresta1/C - around £330 all in.
Either set coupled with a Sony 940 and a PDR10 sub, would comprehensively outclass a Digitheatre.
Spending more might bring better again, but to get significantly better would require a big budget jump too.
