Ben Hur R1 - Wrong ratio?

I got recently the R1 version of Ben Hur. My old WS vhs copy states that the aspect ratio is 2.66-1. Upon playing it on my Wharfedale M5 the aspect ratio loks a lot closer to 2.35 -1. Can anyone else comment if the R1 ratio is wrong, and whether thr R2 version is correct?

Ben-Hur is one of the widest DVDs around, in the correct ratio of 2.76:1. I don't understand how you are seeing it in 2.35:1. Is your system set up correctly?
