View Full Version : Samsung DVD HD950 problems

I've just bought an upscaling DVD player - a Samsung HD950.

I've multi-regioned it, with the instructions that came with it (thanks to Richer Sounds) and found a hack to remove the annoying 'HDMI audio not supported' message.

However, I have a great deal of difficulty just getting the thing to switch on!

When I press the power button, the display lights up with 'LOAD' - but no picture appears on the TV (a Toshiba 32WL56) connected via HDMI.

I can eventually get the player to power on, but only by holding the FF button on the player, which resets it. This only works on roughly 1 in 5 attempts though.

I think it's a HDCP issue - but my TV is HDCP compliant (I think - I don't have a manual) and I've run the HDCP hack on the player, to no avail.

Any advice, anyone, before I box it up and take it back?

mate - look over at the avforums - this is not the only issue with this player....

p s- can you post the hack for removing the 'HDMI audio not supported' message.

I've been checking out the avforums - it was there I (indirectly) found the HDMI audio hack. It involves flashing the player with a region 5 firmware, which removes the HDMI audio error in the process. Not sure I can post a link, but the word 'Zoran' is a clue ;)

I've since found that if I power up the player with the TV or amp switched to any other input than the DVD player, it will power up first go. Weird.

The picture is very impressive for a budget deck, although the lack of NTSC/PAL switching and the annoyingly bright LED's are a set back.
