I have just bought myself a new amp with DTS (plain 5.1) and some new speakers. As I ahve never taken an interest in DTS I don't know what are the best DVDs to utilise it. I know fast and the furious is meant to be good so I have already bought that. Any recomendations would be great.

Thanks

Thanks for the recomendations. Are there any other horrors/scar films that have DTS?

I don't know if you've upgraded from a dolby 5.1, or if this is your first surround sound amp. Either way,
horror films sound great in any 5.1 format, and there are some really effective dolby 5.1 horror films out there. Even the weak Blair Witch 2, has an excellent 5.1 track which adds a new dimension to the film. But as far as DTS goes, What Lies Beneath is certainly an effective one, being a Zemeckis film, you can expect the sound to be amazing (and it is). I don't know if you're just after DTS, but Evil Dead 2 (Anchor Bay) has a really effective re-mixed Dolby 5.1 track, in terms of directional effects etc... plus, The upcoming re-release of Evil Dead is supposed to have a DTS track.
Interview With A Vampire (R1) is DTS
Lost Souls is DTS (but i've v.bad comments on the film)
Sixth Sense is soon being re-released (Vista Series) with a DTS track.

The Jurassic Park films all have amazing DTS tracks.

Almost Famous has an excellent DTS track, in fact it's one the best non-action film tracks out there!

i'm suprised no one mentioned Twister, it has one HELL of a good track!!! one of the best actually!!!

and yep FATF sounds bleedin great!!! all 6 speakers are in constant action!! ( though thankfully you can mute the dialogue speaker!!)

BTW - Saving Private Ryan is THE best sounding DVD around, you try getting it on the classifieds, it ain't easy!!. But really no DTS collection can be without SPR!!! T2 comes a very close 2nd. -- and is a must!

another point, now you're DTS compatible, try checking out some DTS-Audio CDs, they really are the mutt's nuts!! If you're a real fan of The Eagles like me, you'll want both the DTS-DVD and the DTS-CD, you'll notice the CD sounds better, due to a higher bandwith. Any Sting/Police CD, esp. Sting - Brand New Day is a DTS-CD i recommend, so long as you like the dude!! :)

Without a shadow of doubt. I own 30+ DTS discs and this just blows the rest away.

If you want to demonstrate surround sound to anyone play the first two minutes of Hotel Calafornia in PCM and then replay it in DTS, just blows everyone away.

Just to mention a few others that actually use the surround stage to good effect:

Saving Private Ryan
Dragonheart
Air Force One - Superbit
Fifth Element - Superbit
Gladiator
X-Files Fight the Future
Planet of the Apes 2001

What I have found with some discs, is that although they may be DTS the surround stage is not utilised fully, although there's probably slightly more clarity than the DD version, Galaxy Quest, Shrek, Antz, Small Soldiers and Moulin Rouge are good examples of this

I found it was always out of stock EXCEPT for the time I ordered it. The same applies to Galaxy Quest DTS as well from AB!
