View Full Version : Can't get 5.1 from Sherwwod and PS2 ?
I bought a Sherwood 925DD amp from these forums and over the holidays I bought a optical lead for my PS2 to connect up to it. I can get pro-logic sound fine from it, but when I switch to DD I get nothing. I have enabled it on the PS2, also the amp works fine with a AC-3 RF feed from my laserdisc.
The only thing I don't have is a center speaker, so have this switched off on the amp, could this be the problem ?
Dave
May be a silly question - but u never know - Have u selected the optical output on your amp ?(i used to have one of these, although u would not here pro-logic from the PS2 if u hadn't!, unless u have phonos connected via the PS2? (miss the RF on my new Sherwood!), or is the material u are using actually 5.1? (dvd i take it??)

Are you trying to watch DVDs or play games?
I am trying to watch DVD's, been testing with Cats and Dogs R2.
I am selecting Optical Input, but I find the way to change between the inputs a bit confusing.
I only have a optical lead between the PS2 and the amp, no phono's at all.

Tell me about it - The Sherwoods imho are a bit of a pain (still bought another one).
On my Sherwood (the 9090) it stays on Prologic until it plays DD.
At least we have proved the optical cable works, if no phono's are there. Does Cats & Dogs default to 5.1 ?, or have u looked in the menu to see if u have to select it??.
I think i have the manual for my old 925, i'll have a hunt around

Cats and Dogs says 5.1 on the back of the cover and in the menu there is no way to change the sound format, so am presuming it is always 5.1.
I am going to try some other discs and see how I get on.
Thanks,
Dave
Right tried it with R2 Crouching Tiger and R1 The Mummy, still no sound when selecting AC-3
Dave
Don't know if u have the manual - but to hear DD (AC-3) u must select DVD, LDP or AUX/TV (therefore connect the PS2 to one of those inputs) to be able to listen in AC-3, any other mode (ie CD) won't let u listen in DD. Hope this helps

Are we sure that the optical lead is not broken?

He did say he can get pro-logic from it, so the optical cable would appear okay (no phonos were connected)

Slightly lost here, I can get to digital output (optical) menu but can't find anything about dolby digital or DTS how exactly do I get to these on the PS2 ?
This sounds like my problem.

The PS2 is connected via optical so I can only connect it to one place. I have it setup to DD on the DVD selector, but there is nothing in the DVD input.
