Well I ussually put images in another thread, but thought I may as well start one myself for once.

So here is Durham on a rather hot, sunny summers day. Too hot if you ask me!

The Cathederal, Castle, River Wear and lots of blue sky and green grass :) Some I would crop a bit for printing, but no need for now. Any commenta would be nice.

This shot of the Cathederal is taken from the best view I can find in Durham. Its down on the riverside wooden riverside standings, they seem to be used by the Students for rowing on the whole where they dock and land their boats. They store their boats in a near by unit, near the Pink house. The students also keep their boats in that house you see with people on the steps, in fact students get everything in durham. They own and run the place!

One day I will get a perfect picture from this place, there needs to be sun on the Cathederal and no wind so the water reflects everything like a mirror.

This is Durham Castle enterance that leads to the courtyard, behind me was the Cathederal. Never been in the Castle yet as it costs £5, but one day I will.

Taken from Prebends bridge, its a nice looking bridge and I shot the Cathederal from it as the view can be great sometimes and down below there is always something to see from boats to sunbathers and people generally wandering about.

This shot if down at the enterance to the Cathederal, graves litter the green grass and behind me is the castle and open coutryard (called Palace Green) where the visitors get dropped off by tour busses. You suposed to keep off the grass, but obviously they dont care when its too busy to police.

This is again of the Cathederal, taken from out of some of them beautiful windows you see in the picture. Its called the CLOISTERS and is a square of walkways in the middle is the green grass called CLOISTER GARTH. Its always hard to get the right time to take pictures as the suns always hard to catch.

Bloody Cricket, just missed the framing of the match :( but its taken from down by by the riverside cricket ground where many events are held. Its kind of student central at times, but luckily the prison is also near by to lock them up :D Swimming Baths are near and general Sports events happen all the time aroundhere in the open fields. You can just see the red ball lobbed from the bowlers hand, next time I will frame it a lot better to get the full team in the frame.

This is a shot of the Castle, and behind that the Cathederal taken down by the river near Millburngate shopping centre (now changed its name to The Gate/s). You can also see Millburngate Bridge which leads up to the Marketplace into the centre of town.

This shot is of the Castle Keep and a surrounding overgrown house, taken from the Cathederal Palace Green, which can become very busy with trafic and people sadly. They should ban cars I say.

This shot of the the Cathederal is taken from just down from the Framwellgate Bridge, which is overgrown as the river constantly floods its banks and makes the greenery a bit to thick at times.

This shot was taken deep in the woodlands in between the Prebends Bridge and Framwellgate Bridge. Its a bit higher up so you get some interesing views, but when its too overgrown it can be hard to navigate and get perfect pictures.

Again in among them woody trees.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1733/peekingthrudarktreesp10107343u.jpg

Palace Green again, with plenty of old grave sites (I guess noone is burried in them) plenty of benches for people to rest on (and pose for cameras on).

Another shot from Prebends Bridge, just hanging over the stone railings to get a fuller view of down below and the many sunbathers and boats. In the distance you can see Millburngate Bridge and a part of a crane as they are always building around the city.

Another shot down by the river in my favorie place for shots, this time just in front of the rowing boat storage house.
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/1391/summercathederal2tm.jpg

A little woody lane going up from Prebends bridge to Southstreet, its ussually very quiet.

Some onlookers as they gawp in wonder at the trafic in the river Wear, as just around the corner is coming a massive tourboat trying not to hit the 8 or so student boats rowing around! taken down from South Baily, always busy with walkers.

My company sent me to work on assignment in Cramlington near Newcastle. I was looking for a place to stay and passed through Durham on a sunny day! Definitely going to try and find somewhere to live there. After being used to urban areas, Durham is a very nice change.

Sorry to take this off topic, but any advice on how to go about finding short term lets? I've been in touch with a couple of letting agents, but they're very slow to respond :( and I only have a week left!

I've called a few estate agents. One didn't have anything, the other I called three times promised to call me back within the hour, but never got a call returned.

I found a potential place through gumtree and will have a look, but as you said, the ghost, might be worth asking the locals and shops almost randomly. You reminded me that a friend got his place that way :).

The only problem i have with Durham, is that everyone seems to just take photos of the Cathedral, and of nothing else. Now i dont know if its just because i live here, and thus am i used to it, but all photos seem to be relatively same-ish (if that even makes sense)]

Shame im a totally ameuter at photo taking and have a crap camera :P

You are right about the Cathederal being the object of visitors snapping :)

I live and work here, and I still like taking pictures of it so I am guilty of that, but I do snap everywhere else I must say. Its just the Cathederal just seems to look nice to my eyes.
Durham has other things to take photos of, but most are not as large and impressive as the Cathederal I guess. Once you have seen a few hundred images of the same place they do get repetative, I have still got a few thousand pics in me of the Cathederal yet :)

I just took a few hundred pictures of the University students graduating in the Cathereral and Castle, they at least give it some variation :D and the Fair is in town for this wekend, so will get some Carnivale pictures taken too :D if they dont nick my camera that is.

I thought the fair was last weekend? Or is it a two week thing?

I've been a student in Durham for nearly 7 years now. My housemate and I got into photography at the start of the year (after I finally started browsing this sub-forum) and we are still finding new parts of the town to explore. Have you tried going up to the hill by the university science site off Stockton Road? There's a good derelict building that I'm waiting for the right light to get a mono shot of.

Nope havent been up there :D yet.
Latley I am going further and further off my normal routes just to explore, its keeps me fit if anything :D

I wish the Queen would come back now I have a better camera :D last time I didnt even bother going down to see her, but now I am into photography I would just to snap her.
