View Full Version : Moulin Rouge Problems on Alba 103?
Does anyone know if there are any known problems with Moulin Rouge (R1) on the Alba 103 Player? A friend of mine has a copy and it locks up on her Alba player, but works fine on Pioneers!
I had an Alba player for a day until it refused to play Toy Story, so I took it back.
I think there was a problem with Gladiator too.
It wouldn't surprise me if there are plenty of other discs it does not play besides Moulin Rouge... :(
I don't like saying this but DVD players like ALBA and other cheapy's are going to struggle with more and more discs in the future. They are just not manufactured to the degree of a high spec and price that the likes of Panasonic, Sony etc.
We have a JMB (Who??) player downstairs and that struggled to play Bridget Jones:eek:. Fortunately i also have a Phillips & Samsung but i will never compromise price over quality again.
Hope your friend finds a solution.

I dont know about moulin rouge but that player also refuses to play the film GO, it would never budge from the menu screens. I think this player freezes up on a lot of discs, the players fault not the disc probably.
Thanks, I think that it probably is the plyer at fault (it definately wasn't my suggestion of player!)
I'm going to try another copy on the player on Sunday though just in case!

One of my players is an Alba 103 and it plays Gladiator fine - though some players did have a problem with that disc which was deemed to be faulty and subsequently re-issued.
Only discs that have caused problems with my Alba 103 are disc 3 of the Ultimate Toy Box, and Dinosaur. These have caused major problems for many budget players.
re Moulin Rouge - Is this possibly RCE protected? I ask because the Alba does have problems with RCE. It can be worked around though I can't remember the solution offhand.
Incidentally, it must be frustrating for Mr & Mrs J6P to buy a budget DVD player to test the water re DVD - probably like they did when CD first came out, only for certain discs not to play. This did not happen with CD....
Still, given the popularity of our favourite format, these problems do not appear to have dented consumer confidence.
