Phone Sky, ask about Sky+ offers for existing customers, and when they don't offer you anything better than about £259, ask to be put through to Cancellations. Stick to your guns, and the Cancellations department should offer you a Sky+ box for about £49 including installation.
what the hell ill give it a blast :)
Don't forget you'll need either both sports or both movies packages or 1 of each to use Sky+ for free otherwise its £10 a month.
yip i dont mind paying the extra £10 a month
Phoned up sky and the best offer I could get was the £89 deal but they said I must take up another multiroom sub. Oh well, so thats an extra £20 per month. Being installed on Sunday and requested a Pace box as ive read these are the best. Fingers crossed all goes to plan.
If it isn't Pace send it back!
are the others really that bad?

anything but amstrad. pace are always held in high esteem but i have had 3 paces die on me over the past few years so they are not without their shortcomings. We currently have a thomson and so far so good.

Rather than paying £10 for Sky+ upgrade your package to include 1 sports and 1 movie so your Sky+ will be free, cheapest is £32 thats what i pay anyways

does that include the family package? And can you switch which sports channel you need at any time ?
1 sports and 1 movie? do u mean sky sports 1/3 and sky movies 1 for £32?
Sports 1 or 2 & Movies ! or 2, Sports 3 comes only with Sports 1 & 2
I pay £32 for the family pack plus Sky Sports 1,3 + Sports Extra and Sky Movies 2,4,6,8 + 10 and a couple of Disney channels and includes Sky+ for free
The Disney main channels are now part of the family package, Disney Cinemax is free if you get both Movie packages.

yeah the only disney one I like - cinemagic - is with movies only, not with both sports
Thanks for the info guys. I pay £21 for the family pack atm so £32 minus the sky+ fee is only £1 extra.
the sky website does not offer a £32 package. ill phone sky but before i do what exactly should i say to get this deal?
Thanks

what do they call this package? I bet they deliberately rotate the cricket/footy round Sky 1 and 2 just to annoy you.
The package is 1J it was just over a year ago i got Sky+, yes they do seem to swap stuff over but im not a very keen sports watcher anyway :)
The original thread was here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=369417&page=1&pp=40) about the packages and Sky+ offer :)
got sky+ installed but the engineer only had an amstrad box. the box is very loud when the fan starts. do the pace / thomson boxes have internal fans too?
They all do but the others are much better, my Pace is in my bedroom (which I'm guessing yours is) and I can sleep through it fine. Howecer its the HD noise in the Amstrad that meant to be the real killer.
I put a Zalman fanmate on my Pace Sky+ box nice and quiet :)
yip my box is in my bedroom and the fan is too loud. i can also hear the hdd clicking when recording a program.
im going to call sky and request a replacement pace box.
The clicking is what the Amstrad is infamous for.
Just rang Sky and threatened to cancell got 25% discount for 12 months , now £24 for my package with Sky+ :)

I object to having to pay £120 a year on top of our Sky subscription just to record TV, which I personally think is a rip-off.
We cancelled our Sky+ last week (moving house soon, so know we're going to be without a dish for a while whilst moving in, and then carrying out building work). We might sign up again later in the year if we feel the need.
If I had chosen to stay, they would have upgraded my package to include every channel (excluding Sky Sports, but including all the Sky Movie channels) to include Sky+ functionality for £26 for 12 months.
Didn't think that was a bad deal, but still wasn't good enough incentive to stay. As a temporary solution, we spent £99 on a Freeview DVR (Thomson DHD4000 from Argos). Not as user friendly as Sky+, and obviously nowhere near as many channels, but does the same job :-) It will pay for itself in less than 3 months of our existing Sky subs rate.

.
Depends on what package you have i would think the majority of users dont pay the £10 fee anyway because of what package they are on.

Well, I've had Sky+ for three weeks, had two Amstrad boxes in that time, both have been faulty, so the engineer is calling again today - If I go home to find another Amstrad box, I'll be in tears :( Faults include:
Inability to access the personal planner
Box locking up and not responding to any remote/box buttons - only way to fix is to remove the power and leave it for 5 minutes
Trying to playback something you've recorded, only for the sound to keep cutting out periodically
and last night, a new one - the display banner scrolling through every channel, and not bothering to stop.
hopeless, I'd avoid the Amstrad boxes like the plague from now on - plus the hard drive is always clicking away, and quite noisy too when powered on.
Good luck Boroboy, hope you get yours sorted out!

We have an Amstrad Sky+ box, and it proved faultless for the 14 months we were signed up for. Had an Amstrad Sky digibox before then, which was also fine.
Either they've gone downhill somewhat since we got ours, or you've been particularly unlucky (or come to thing of it, we could just have been lucky ourselves!).
Have read about people having problems with the Amstrad boxes in the past, but also read about people having problems with the Pace boxes too.
Flibble man! DEMARD a PACE box!

Flibble, I meant to follow up in the other thread, but since you're here ....
Got ours installed last Friday, and like yourself the installer only had Amstrad boxes (new ones at least). But unlike yourself, we've had hardly any problems. There have been a couple of minor sound drop outs on recordings and the hard drive clicks a bit but it's behind a glass door in the TV cabinet anyway.
Guess it's just your luck with the box and / or installer.
Now that I've said that, it'll probably burst into flames tonight. :D

I would email James Murdochs office as they might resolve your problem with a Pace .
james.murdoch@sky.com
i agree. flibble demand a pace or thomson box. :)
ive had a nightmare tbh. the engineer moved my old multiroom box to another bedroom and installed phone line etc. after he left i couldnt get online from my bedroom so i checked bt master socket to find the engineer removed the adsl filter and took it away!! plugged in another filter and the phone line doesnt work in the new bedroom. phoned sky put thro to about 4 people and said they would send an engineer to fix the phone line. this was sunday and im still waiting for the call.
now my broadband doesnt work from my bedroom which has been fine for years and im missing a filter.
just to top it off my old box which has been fine for years died yesterday, now stuck on standby. sky quoted £65 as its out of warranty to send an engineer. so ive cancelled the multiroom sub.
so now if i cant sort my broadband problem out it is gunna cost £100 for wireless equipment.
all was fine before sky+ was installed :(
oh...and sound is also dropping out on some recorded programs
When I fist got Sky Digi (in the first year of digi) I went through 3 Amstrad boxes and all of them had sound drop outs, I then got a Pace that worked perfectly until I replaced it with a Sky+ box. This is now a 2 Pace Sky+ household and they are both quiet and reliable.

Well, someone up there obviously hates me :(
Got home yesterday, and my dad had stayed in the house waiting for the engineer. We live in the scottish borders, and they mentioned to dad that, due to the size of our dish (one designed for England apparently!) it might have caused problems, so we now have a new, larger dish on the house, and another new LNB
They also gave us a new box as well...........another Amstrad one! That was all they apparently! So, we sat down last night with it on, and yay - it decided to cut the picture off, and turn itself all of again. Honestly, I was screaming blue murder in the front room :(
I did tape the world cup highlights last night, and watched this morning, there was no sound drop out, but the problem was always that it was intermittent. I've set the box to record the england game this afternoon, if there's ANY problems, I'll be on to sky telling them to either get me a pace box, or I'll terminate my contract, i've had three new boxes, in about 4 weeks :(
You couldn't make this stuff up!
There are some good deals to be had off sky if you've been with them a while. I've had 1/2 price subs for a few months, then went to £1 a month, had new dish and sky+ installed for free a few weeks ago when we moved house and now i'm paying 66p a month for everything except movie channels

Right, got in last night, started to watch the England game, box decided to power itself off again and sit there for a good few minutes completely unresponsive, so - phoned Sky and booked it.....again.
I'm going to email Sky as well on the link provided above, and have a word!
