A mate at work has a V3 the original V3 not the V3i or any of the other varities - he is finding everytime he removes the sim card he loses all his save messages both sms and mms - he has been back to the o2 shop where he had it from and they have told him thats what happens with them - is manufacturers functionality - now I had one of these briefly when they first came out and i can't remember mine doing this - does this happen with anyone elses or is the o2 shop guy BSing him...?
Just tried it on my black V3 and it didn't lose anything.

I had to take the sim card out from my V3 last week and found that when I put it back in all my messages were gone. I'm with Orange.

many questions
1) can you add words to predictive text?
2) can you change the text char count down so it starts at 160, not 450 as that would be 3 texts!!!!!!!

Hi thanks for all your comments, so this V3 has been badly designed, that u lose all the messages each time the sim card is removed. Do anyone know anyway or any settings to prvent this or is this how it is?

Badly designed indeed. The V3 also doesn't allow you to delete GPRS profiles. The one I got came preloaded with GPRS settings that I can't delete to make way for my network's settings.
A bit silly really

I remember a setting from when I had mine that you could change - something along the lines of normal message type and extended or long message type. No idea where it is though.
Also you can add words - I think you have to press the centre menu key when typing a new message.
Not got mine anymore so can't be more precise I'm afraid.

From what I can gather, my V3 will remember words used most frequently. So, for example, if I use the word "crtbyulaerybde" then the first time out I would have to type it in letter by letter, but then as long as I used it regularly, it would stay in the memory of the predictive texting.
Not sure how long it would stay there for though

If you want to add a new word to the dictionary, just type it out, using the left/right keys to select the correct word cluster as you go along. It then automatically adds the word when you're done.
No idea about the SMS length though! As for the original problem with missing SMS, I found that it's only when you use a new sim card, if you just replace the same one then no messages are lost.

A bit silly reallythat can be done with 3rd party software & the synch cable. Had to do it on mine & a friends take a look at http://www.motomodders.net/ everything you need
i swapped the sim in my v3i once and yes, it lost all the messages. I was not impressed.

cool, have done that - went off predictive text, typed the word, then went back to predictive and typed it and it comes up. so thats good, if unituitive.
thanks

You can go to most providers websites & they will send you the correct settings direct to your phone, as long as you have room for them that is

okay, more questions
it says it has a bluetooth link, but i THINk its just to link to a hands=free kit rather than general zap stuff to other people?
Also: when typing texts, i am used to typing in preductive and then going back and correcting, but it appears that once i have done a word, if i want to change it (ie ace to bad) i have to delete and start again? true?
not sure i like this phone much. too many niggles compared to my old lG phone.

Bluetooth - nope, you can connect to a PC for instance and do data transfers etc, like using the Phone tools which come with the phone (well it did with mine)
If you've got bluetooth on a PC, it should be able to tell you in what ways it can communicate with the phone.
Preductive - ha ha - should have corrected that one ;)
Predictive, not sure exactly how you do it now, but with the V3 you can go back and change individual letters etc, you have to select the word before you carry on, maybe thats what you're getting at. Its the best predictive text I've ever used (my third phone with predictive on it), but thats not to say that LG don't do it better, I haven't had an LG phone.
I've had mine almost 2 years, it used to be quite exclusive, now everyones got one :( , when I last upgraded, I kept my phone and upgraded my PDA instead, so I'm sticking with my V3 for quite a while yet I think.
Then it fitted the criteria I set when I bought it, thin, clamshell and bluetooth, which I use quite a bit due to a daily commute of 1hr each way.

My black V3 loses its date and time if not turned on for more than a week! Vodafone upgraded the software (or so they said) on the first phone I had, then exchanged it, but the same problem happens. Just have to make sure the phone gets turned on regularly now. Never had this happen to any other mobile I've owned in the last decade.

the issue is that i type fast. and then look back at message and want to correct good for home and bad for ace. But if i go back to the word, i can't find anyway of correcting it, short of deleting it all and starting again. As it just suggests predictive options for the deleted letters
ie
good would be deletted ie delete d
then i press d
so it offers options of good, gooe, goof, but not anything changing the first 3 letters.
annoying, but just have to learn to correct as i go along.
And full stops!!!!! it always wants to give me a 1 at the end of words, not a full stop. so appols to anyone who gets my texts!!
