Hi all.
Apologies for yet another mobile phone thread but I'm hoping to get some
information on the following phones I've been offered on contract renewal.
SE W810i
Nokia 6280
Nokia 6131
I like the look of all these phones and their specs are fairly similar. Any of them
would do me fine. What I'd like to know is what are they like to live with? Does
anyone have any experience with any of these phones?
Thanks in advance :)
my mates got the SE w810i and it is a brilliant phone. haven't seen the other phones.
I have the 6280 and have found it a great phone. The sliding style isnt everyones cup of tea but I have got on with it very well. Havn't had the others so cant comment on those.
W810i here & lovin' it. Camera quality is great & the MP3 part if it is really good too. The phone part works surprisingly well but you don't want to know about the boring bits! This is from a lifelong Nokia fan / user too. :)
Go with the Sony. Its a cracking phone.

My girlfriend's got the w810i (I myself have the w800i, same phone, different colour) and my mates got the 6280.
Personally go for the Sony Ericsson. It depends what you're after though.
SE:-
1. 2 megapixel phone. Great looking photos
2. Walkman. Comes with 512mb card for over 120 mp3's, Sony headphones and sounds ace. Dodgy software with it though (or at least the w800i has.)
3. Quite small.
4. Looks fantastic (like a lot of SE phones they look pretty cool)
Nokia:-
1. Better user interface (as most Nokia's are). Instead of a wallpaper it has a pc type desktop. Very cool
2. Bigger screen than the Sony.
3. Sounds/tones etc through externel speaker are fantastic. Very loud.
4. A bit on the biggish side.
5. Quite boring, sedate looks.
6. 2 megapixel camera also but memory card that comes nowhere near 512mb like SE.
Both have FM radio, bluetooth wap etc.
As you see, both have the same (more or less) features. You'd be best off going to Carphone Warehouse and handling both and judging for yourself.
Try Carphone Warehouse's website and use their 3D imager for each phone. Great tool if you're stuck on what to get.
I don't know much about the 6131 other than it's a flip phone. Don't know about camera pixelation, it does take transflash memory card but no idea what it comes with.

Thanks for the comments so far. Certainly seems like the SE is nudging ahead ;)
I have been a bit of a Nokia fan myself although I have tried a Siemens (S65)
and a Motorola (V3) recently. Wasn't really happy with either. Not because
they were inferior to Nokias, they just had too many quirks and bugs. That's
pretty much why I created this thread so I could try to find out if any of
these phones have any really annoying quirks.
For example: SMS messaging on the V3 was a complete PITA for me. I
always had to wait for the phone to catch up with me. The Siemens had a
really annoying habit of not letting you do anything with files you transfer to
the phone.
Are there any aspects of the W810i or the 6280 that really annoys you?

I've owned Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, Seimens, Sagem and Sharp in the past and the most user friendly in my opinion are SE and Nokia. They're as user friendly as each other. Again, my opinion.
The layout of the SE is flawless. A monkey could work every function in a day. Maybe the keys are a little too close together if you've got big fingers.
The Nokia is quite "brickish" but when it starts to ring and you've an mp3 playing as your ringtone, the sound knocks you for six. Not really helping here am I?
My girlfriend was stuck between those same two phones when her upgrade was due. She chose the w810i but I think that had more to do with the fact it was the same as mine (w800i) but better looking, just so she could gloat.
Cow.

Thanks again for the comments.
I'm pretty much set on the SE now. Just got to pop in to CPW tomorrow for a
final 'play test' of each phone before deciding. :)

I'm deciding also! Was set on the 6280, but think I'll go down to CPW to check out the Sony also. Then to see how much I can extort out of vodafone whilst threatening to leave! Muahaha.

Wow! Is that top section detachable then?
My SE arrived this morning so I've been having a bit of a play with it and am well impressed

It's not detachable, but tilts over to widescreen. When it's upright, it splits into 2 screens - a tv screen and another screen for whatever, so you won't have to miss your favourite programs.
It picks up all terrestrial tv channels in Japan for free and they were advertising it heavily with the world cup coming up, so I got one thinking I'd watch matches in the office. Only later did I realise that all the matches would be in the middle of the night,
and I would be at home anyway. Doh!
