I,ve posted before but nobody seems interested.

Do ALL subs hum or is it just mine. It's a Pioneer S-W80S and it hums just connected to the mains and not connected to the amp.

It's very distracting when there's a quiet scene.

As this is my first DVD setup,I don't know if this is normal.

Come on guys,help me out.

Oh and by the way,can you suggest some good cheap disk supplier sites ?

Are you sure that the volume is set right on your sub?

Ok ,but why ?

Surely it is not beyond reason with modern technology to have a piece of kit that dosn't suffer from mains hum .

John 316.

What has volume control got to do with it ?

If I turn it all the way down it still hums.

Just checking - if subs are set too loud then you can hear a hum

Hi,

Well my Yamaha SW90 Sub does not hum....but it took 3 different makes of Subs to find one that did'nt.

I tried a cheesy Gale £50 sub which was cra....rubbish, then a Paradigm PDR8 which was a killer of a sub but would hum all the time quite loudly when on. Then the JPW SW40 which hummed when it was off and was a let down in performance after the PDR8.

So after a recommendation from another Hifi shop (Sevenoaks rather than Richer Sounds) I got the Yamaha at a bargain price because of all the trouble.

No hum but it still does'nt have the same slam as the PDR8 had but my new B&W 603S3's make up for it.

Is the Pioneer part of a system? Can it be swapped for a different make?

I have a Tannoy mSub 10 and that hums too!! It is definitely an earth loop somewhere, as the AV electronics and the TV/digibox do not share the same power source (at either end of the room). If I unplug the phono cable from Digibox/TV to amp the hum goes away completely.

Haven't got round to trying to cure it - but try and ensure all power sources are the same.

Yamaha (something or other) and it hums.
I would certainly check out for earth loops, as a mate had a very pronounced hum on a sub that was cured by removing the metal connections between his amp and his dvd and driving it totally via an optical link.
