Not even sure if this theory applies, but
a) I'm at work
b) I'm here on my own
c) I'm very bored ;)
So, I'm off to get a Widescreen TV tonight (the JVC 28WFT1EK if anoyones interested). Never watched a movie on WS telly before, so what should I watch first to make me go 'Wow!' Take a look at my humble selection in my link below and let me know what whows off WS to the full.
I'm not even sure if I'll notice a big difference to begin with. I know the difference I felt between Gladiator coming through my TV speakers, then through my DTS amp - is the visual leap just the same?
So, recommend some of my films to try out tonight (after Eastenders apparently :( )

Looking at your collection I'd be tempted for Gladiator for the battle scenes. Then if you have time try one of the Toy Storys as these will fill the entire screen and looks so lush on DVD
Are you a R2 only person? If so, get multi region dear fellow!
What I enjoy most is getting hold of films you've only seen on TV when you were a kid. Get the DVD which has a 16x9 print and just going "Wow, don't remember seeing that bit!" A recent example is The Goonies which is 2.35:1 and looks stunning.
4:3 sucks big time :D
Edit: Don't forget to set your DVD player to 16:9 (Quite a few friends still watch DVD's in Zoom mode!)

Any that are 16x9 enhanced. ie Anamorphic.
Don't forget to set your DVD player to 16x9.

Right - forgot about the TV switching thing. The JVC apparently auto switches depending on the info sent to it - but I'll have to tell the DVD player how to do that to :)
another 90 minutes, then I'm off - hurrah :)
Can't wait to watch Eastenders in the OAR tonight :brickwall
Go get yourself a copy of either Blade Runner or The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. Both unwatchable in fullscreen and awesome in their full 2.35-1 glory.

Is there still rumours of a Special Edition next year on R1 with commentary by Harrison Ford (I'm not kidding)
Also, isn't the R2 picture quite bad? If I'm wrong about this let me know as I'll order it for £8 to keep me going ;)
The current release of Blade Runner is perfectly fine, its not gonna set the world alight but it'll do until the SE comes along. You might as well get it in the meantime.
Both Gladiator and Toy Story are good options i would also consider Jurassic Park, maybe not reference quality but still good or Tarzan. I really like the transfer on this. Quite stunning.
Although if it was me i'd let the missus watch Eastenders then tell her to go and have a bath and then watch choice bits from all your movies. ie, T-REX scene, climax of Tarzan, Battle senes in Gladiator etc.
Have fun:D
I'm with Robby on this one,
Gladiator, watch for the detail in all the armour , stunning!
Tarzan too is simply one of the best "Traditional" looking animations around, even on 4:3 but 16:9 is lush.
Jurassic park also looks great, the thing that really blew me away was, (quite sad this) in the helicopter flight to the island I noticed a sort of strobe shadow, duff thought I, never had that problem on the old square Toshiba, then I realised it's the shadow of the rotor blades!

Thanks for all these replies guys - I couldn't get the telly last night though, so I'm off at lunchtime today :)
Our lass is out late tonight anyway, so I can pick through my titles to watch my favourite bits from different movies later on. Looking at the news it's predicting blizzards across Scotland - hope it reaches me - last time we were blocked in the house for a week
