not sure if this is in the right forum....

OK, well ive just been informed by Mr Orange that i can have a new phone if i want one, but looking at the list i have a feeling that are all a bit *****. ive always used the orange spv's and could upgrade from my C550 to a C600 but they have no stock at the moment, so would mean waiting, and im not sure if i want another SPV.

here is the list that i can get. does anyone recommend any of these because im not quite up on my mobile technology. if they all a bit naff i'll just wait for a new SPV.

thanks for your advice.

the list:
Nokia 7360
Samsung X700
SE K750i
Motorola Pebl
Nokia 1600
Motorola L6
Samsung X660
Samsung E530
Samsung E350E
Nokia 6030
Samsung D500
Motorola ROKR

You cant go wrong with the K750i even though its about a year old now. Also haggle to get your tariff reduced. It seems to work on O2.

I'd say all those are lower spec wise then the C550 with perhaps the exception of the K750i which may be worth upgrading due to the 2MP camera, however I still would say the C550 is better. To be honest there is negligible differences between the C600 and C550, the camera is 1.3mp but rubbish, the operating system is newer (WM5) but not really that much of an improvement.
You could try to get through to retentions who may offer you a better handset (probably need to spend £25 per month or more), steer clear of the Nokia 'N' series though, Orange mucked up the software on the N70 so it has their horrible homescreen and it can be fairly unreliable (Mate has one and hates the thing so has gone back to his D500). N80 is just out but i'd steer clear for at least a month, it already has the problem of connecting permently to GPRS/3G when it's turned on which will cause lower battery life. W800i is quite good as it comes with decent headphones and a 512mb mem stick, K800i is on the horizon but don't expect it till at least another month on Orange, tis nice though ;)

what about the Motorola fancy designer pants ones? are they all a bit crap? quite like the look of the L6 and the Pebl.

no longer need a phone for its functionality, just for phone usage really.

L6 is pretty naff, PEBL looks very nice but basic (VGA camera etc) but if you just want to make calls should be fine, V3i is another nice looking handset and slim, D600 also has a nice feel and its got a rather nice screen resolution, 2MP camera and excellent video recording.

i might go for a PEBL then...certainly looks nice...

i think any screen is gonna look naff after my C550, but i guess its something im going to have to come to terms with.

I've got the SE800i which has the same camera as the K750i so would recommend that. Not a lot of people like Motorola's as they are a bit "finickey". Even if you decide to keep your current phone I'd still get a new one off of your contractors, then sell it. Sounds tight I know, but always get what you can out of them. They make enough money out of us so I'd always make sure they give something up and not get out of giving away a new phone.

I also find the Motorola menu system awkward to use, I'd stay clear of them (I had 3 in the past V300, V500, V3). The Samsung D600 is an excellent phone to use, although the SE K750i has more features like RDS radio (but I don't find it as useable as the D600).

The Orange M600 looks like a fab phone but the Orange shop I went to was out of stock (also out of stock for online upgrades too).

Moving up a tariff will probably bring the price of the handset down. I have a friend who is on T-Mobile 200 minutes only tariff and they was going to charge hime 180 quid for the MDA Vario. When he upped his tariff to 250 mins + 100 texts the phone came down to a tenner !!

I upgraded my K700 to the K750i which is , in all intents and purposes, the self same phone just slightly upped.

I like it. it's a good phone, camera's not bad but really I've not gained much.. well apart from the £50 I got from my old phone ;)

Strange that they've no stock of the C600 as the screen on mine died yesterday and I've got a replacement coming tonight. It had better turn up.

I am probably going to sell it on becase I really am not that impressed with it. I actually preferred my old C500 and plan on going back to it if I can actually find it.

OK the OS and screen on the 600 are better but the joystick is a real pain to use and the buttons are just not as good as the 500s.

When my contract is up in Decemeber I'll be moving to T-Mobile unless Orange introduce far better tariffs before then

yes, and sell your new phone on ebay - you should get 200 quid for it at least (if you pick a very new one)

does anyone have any thoughts on the LG Chocolate ?

The Chocolate looks very nice but I wouldn;t get one becaus it seems very flimsy and I would be very wary of how long it would last before breaking

I had a play with one in Carphone Warehouse and it does look great. It is very light and nearly as thin as the Razr. So I understand your concern over the robustness of it.

I am just looking for a really good basic phone, no camera, no MP3 and I already have a computer thankyou very much.......but I would like a good looking one, after my current Nokia 6230.

I have a K750i, had it for a year and its an awsome phone, the camera you can use the photos as its 2 mega pixels, excellent flash too.

I upgraded to Nokia N80 last week and whilst its a nice phone the battery life is woeful, 1-2 days at most, my K750i last 4-5 days minimum.

So i sold my N80 and now use my K750i.
