View Full Version : Argggg... 'Accordion' effect with Loewe WS TV

When playing anamorphic discs on a Loewe Vitros WS TV I've been having some problems. Every couple of minutes the TV does a quick reversal from 16:9 to a 4:3 format and squeezes the picture again - the screen borders creep in, the ratio goes funny - and then it quickly corrects itself. I've cancelled all the automatic zooming functions on the TV in case they are to blame and get the same results with or without them. Connected with S-video or Scart I get the same problem.
The DVD player - a Sony DAV500 - may be at fault, but it seems to have been set up correctly for a 16:9 TV and it has few options for me to screw up anyway...
Anyone had similar problems - not necessarily with the same set-up - and/or can suggest a remedy?
It isn't helping my case convincing the J6P of the family about the superiority of OAR and anamorphic discs when we get this problem..

Unfortunately I can't help with your querry, but you may be able to help with mine.
I have been considering buying a Loewe Aconda TV for some time but as always I have not been able to find anywhere that I can view a properly set up TV (i.e. normal contrast levels) with a Demo of DVD, Digital Sat TV & Terrestrial TV. I am very wary of 100Hz processing anyway and the pictures on any TV in showrooms look awful.
Apart from the problems that you are having, are you happy with the TV.
The only other TV that I would consider would be a SONY, but I can get the ACONDA 9281 for a very resonable price.
Cheers!

Sorry for the delay.. I'm very happy indeed with the Loewe Vitros set. It was tested and bought in my absence, for the family, but I find the picture remarkably clear and detailed, see little evidence of over-processing (I've turned off the digital noise reduction) and I adjusted the settings myself - contrast and brightness are fine. DVD playback, apart from the anamorphic PAL problem, is superb - my recent favourite disc Casualties of War looks stunning.

Thanks for the reply. It's great to hear an un-biased view.
I have managed to locate an Aconda for a very resonable price so I am looking forward to many hours of viewing.
Thanks again.:)

I was watching the Loewe Aconda 9381ZW today in my local Hi-fi showroom (B&B Hi-fi Newbury) and the picture quality was amazing. It was connected to a top of the range ARCAM dvd player (£1600) and the quality was near to that of HD. The set was priced at £1800 but I am sure that a deal could have been struck. Go get it , I know I am

if you don't mind me asking, how much ?
1450 for an ex demo model and 1500 for a new one was as low a I saw - so no chance of the VGA card in either I guess
