View Full Version : Lovefilm - Still as bad as they were?
I have an offer for 3 months for the price of 1 for Lovefilm. Last time I used them they were poor, but the previous time they were good. How's the disc turnaround/availability now?

Can't comment on LoveFilm (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=3412&a=60823&g=65594), but ScreenSelect (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=17418&a=60823&g=140086) have been excellent since I signed up to them a month or so ago.
Discs are normally sent out the same day after they receive one back and they don't take to long processing the return either. Sent one back last Tuesday and had a new one on the Thursday.

copied and posted my post from The Best Online rental company thread
'For some reasons after months of much improved service, Lovefilm this month have been nothing short of rubbish
Titles (with the exception of 1 old title in my top 5) from the bottom of my list, a disc that never turned up, slow turnaround in sending discs out, and now a disc that wont play properly.
Whats happened?'
Perhaps that answers your question ;)

Oh and the horrendously scratched disc I sent back was replaced by one in even worse condition, that even played less of the dvd than the one before it.
3 lost rentals this month then
They've been ever so slightly slower in May, with unfathomable delays, particularly when I return two discs at a time (which they'd have you believe they prefer you to do).
You'd then expect them to send two new discs out at the same time (particularly when I have 70+ titles in my list, a lot of them very old titles) by return, but oftentimes I just get 1 on day 1, the second the day after.
On the whole though, they have been fine : April was a real bonus month for me : I got through 17 titles, which isn't half bad (I'm on the 3 at a time tariff) considering you need to allow for 3 day turnaround for replacements (plus Easter, plus weekends).
Yeah, it's been a very slow month in posting stuff out and when I mix that with the fact I had 2 'lost' discs (same envelope of course), them blocking my account and me getting no discs for 7 days -it's been a bad month.
TIme to contact their CS.
Is it true they are openly limiting the number of rentals per week? I'm sure I read that on here somewhere...

As they've now merged with Screenselect, the choice of online rental companies is dwindling further (although they are still both trading for the moment; I see Lovefilm have now adopted the 3 level order of priority system that Screenselect use)
I personally find Lovefilm pretty good overall
At the rate we are going LoveFilm will start to squeeze their customers more and more.
They thing that worries me (apart from no decent competiotion) is if they move more to downloads. They've already got a few titles that are 'download only'. Like they're doing us some sort of favour.
Big fan of screenselect too.

I have just rejoined Lovefilm on £12.99 for 3 months (2 at a time)
I recieved the first two movies the next day. If I get two a week for 3 months I will be extremely happy ...... 50p a movie!
I see Lovefilm have now adopted the 3 level order of priority system that Screenselect use)As far as I can make out, SS use the high priority level to ensure that they don't send you all the things that really want.
I've been with them for over two years, and there are usually four items or fewer in the priority section, and they never send out the last couple of disks, no matter how long they sit there. If they were all recent, popular films, I could understand it, but they are usually old TV DVD's.
It makes sense from their point of view. If someone's going to cancel, they'll do it when there's nothing left that they want to see as a priority, so never let the priority part of the list empty.
Cynical?
