View Full Version : 360 - Query on Games Bought Using Points
Hi
If I buy a game from the On Line Market Place (Arcade) using my Gamertag can the missus play these as well (she has a seperate on-line gamertag).
Basically are the games per gamertag or console?
Good question this. I knew they were on a per Gamertag basis but since they are on a machine already I wasn't sure.
I checked on one of the other Silver accounts I have. All of the games are accessible ie she doesn't need to redownload them, but they are limited to trial versions - to play the full ones she must either a) use your Gametag or b) pay for it using her own points.
The reason for this is that by per Gamertag - you can download them again as many times as you want for your Gametag's usage on any machine. But also so she can't play an unlocked (ie purchased game) and use full features such as multiplayer, scoreboards etc without buying it (it treats them as seperate ie recognises the content is on the machine, but not her ability to play it as her Gamertag hasn't bought it).
Sorry, but hope that helps.
thanks mattbishop.
Think i'll avoid the marketplace games if I have to pay for them twice.
ive got full games from marketplace and both me and the wife can play them on. for her to use features like scoreboards etc she needed another gold live membership. So as far as im aware anyone can play the games on the machine as long as they have a gold membership.
sorry to be a nuisance but does the same apply to game add ons. I was thinking of buying the PGR3 Speed pack.

Well she can play the trial versions, in some cases that might be like only one or two levels.

Not a nuisance. I would imagine the free content she could play, as it is on the machine and is available to all anyway (like she can play the Arcade games but is limited to trials, there are no "trials" for free "add-ons") but the Premium stuff I don't suppose she will be able to play.

The PGR3 speed pack is useable by everyone on the console. Just tried it with my other halfs gt and it worked fine.
Is that one premium isn't it?

I've bought several games (Zuma, Feeding frenzy) and both my girlfriend and I can play them. They must be the full versions as she's on level 9 of Zuma while I'm on level 7. We've both played through to the end of Feeding Frenzy too...
I've got a Gold sub and she's got a silver...
Sorry to confuse matters!
;-)
Thats interesting, um, not sure, maybe it's certain games? On my other silver accounts that I use for US and Jap Marketplace I was only limited to trial versions.
It certainly makes sense as you could then take your profile around all your mates houses, unlock the game for them then go home.

i agree but from the other perspective paying twice for a game which you want to use more legitimately (i.e. between family members) doesn't sound appealing either...
could easily be something wierd in the way i've done it though...
guess you'll just have to try it and see binning...
I've got 1 year gold. The missus has 1 month gold and probably won;t re-new. I'll try buying one game on her ID and hopefully i'll have access to this. Will report my findings.
Just check on my 360 using my brothers silver account. It seems as long as my profile is on the machine (either on memory card or HDD) then anyone else can play the full version too. I didn't have to log my account in either.
I seem to remember it working when I took my memory card and used it on another 360 too (it unlocked the demo copy while my mem card was inserted)
Just to report that I bought a couple of titles and they work on all user id's that use my machine.

I don't have a 360 yet, but if i was designing the system, as long as the purchasers GT was on the machine that originally downloaded the game, then it would work for all GT's on that machine.
