This isn't the mobile rainbow deal is it?
Yes, this is the Mobile Rainbow deal that CPW matched... before they got swamped and gave up.
This is the current address on the website:
Chequebacks
The Carphone Warehouse
P.O. BOX 4259
Wednesbury
WS10 7WZ
Ah good (it's not the mibile rainbow deal ;)). Needed to check as the MR deal is different (what I have). The first cash back on that is done after 6 months.

Just to check,do you just send the original bill in an envelope to CPW, without any sort of extra letter or snything?
I suppose special delivery is a good idea here(?)
Don't know why I didn't move this to the Mobile Phone Forum

make you mind up :)
i suppose this is also a current offer as well - whislt the very first deal may not still be in the offer, the concept that CPW pricematch other deals still seems to hold (well they have the link there still). So its good for the person who doesn't trust some smaller retailer.

I am sending all four originals, plus a covering letter and sending it special delivery.
Should cover all bases. :)

Photocopies, man, photocopies!
Andrew70

I shall be sending photocopies of the four bills just to be sure.
I'll also include a photocopy of the invoice that came with the phone which states it's a 12 month free deal. As it's not one of their own schemes I think it's safer that way to show they've price matched another retailer.

My 4th bill has just come, and only just noticed it has an additional charge for 'Orange World 4', which appears to cost £4 a month.
Does anybody know what this? It wasn't something I requested to have on the account.

Got my 4th bill, and ive photocopied it and written a covering letter.
Are there any vouchers to fill in, like e2save do, or do i just send the above to their address?
EDIT

Ive just printed out the vouchers from their adobe web page...ill fill that in and send as well.

Damn, just sent mine off yesterday without that voucher.
Uncle Nick
14-09-2006, 08:03
You don't need to send in the voucher - they've stopped bothering with them :)
On the down side, they've TURNED INTO MUPPETS since I dealt with them last... Sent my 4th bill as per the last page, and yesterday I got a letter back saying it's "too early in my contract" to send in a claim. Wtf? So I ring up, and they've decided they want the bill for the 4th month after you signed up. I bought in May, so they want September's bill which is the 5th one. Lunacy. However, you can take the required bill into a CPW shop and they'll fax it through (apparently) - this is certainly the course of action I intend to take. :|
Andrew70
18-09-2006, 11:36
....so they want September's bill which is the 5th one.
Just thinking about this, if they want what is effectively bill 5, does this mean they'll want bills 9 and 13 too?
If so that means we'll have to extend out contracts in some way to get the last refund doesn't it?
JCTurner
18-09-2006, 16:50
Hmm - I just sent of my 4 bill to them (1st bill was for 2 days connection). If they say its the wrong one I'll expect it in writing...
Royal mail manage to have lost by letter - good job I sent photo copies. Send it registered 1st class post on 7th Sept and the track and trace still hasnt got it delivered.
Going to have to pull the stuff together again. Wonder should I just wait for the next bill because my first bill was only for a few days connection too like JCTurner - above.
I have 60 days to claim the cashback - isnt that right?
JCTurner
18-09-2006, 19:22
Yup - 60 days from the 4th bill. Worse case scenario I send the next one - eother way Im within the 60 days :-)

Not even had the text, posted off last wed :( but sure it will happen, as long as they text they will send out the cheque, wasn;t there a phone number on the claim form?
UPDATE: text arrived so am happy :) at least you get 60 days to send it in, i was slow this time. they also didn't care it was 4th bill rather than end of 4th month malarky referred to above.
not had mine yet but sure it will happen - any day now.
I have had the txt to confirm they have recieved my claim - now wait for the cheque to pop thru. They certainly are much better then the Muppets ot OSPS.
mmmmmmmmm - Just got another message which is a duplicate to the one I already had stating my Cheque back application was a success and to allow 14 days for receipt.
The last one was sent 19/09/06
Anyone else actually got a cheque yet?
Hopefully this means that its actually been posted this time.

Woohoo just got my cheque today.
As far as timescales - sent away via Royal Mail signed for delivery 7/Sept
(They still think it hasnt been delivered - so much for online tracking.
Got a text saying the'd recieved it then one saying it had been sucessfully processed on 19th Sept. Then got the exact same text 6/Oct.
Then got the cheque back today 12/Oct.
So a month and a bit since originally sent off. I'm happy.

Post when you are giving notice to so that I remember too. Need a half decent phone this year though. I gave the Motorola to my bro last year as I had a K750i - but its starting to show its age with the camera not working and the joystick playing up. Quite liked the K750i so might go for the likes of a w810i.

We'll have to keep our eyes open for new deals in the next few months. I've also got an O2 contract with MobileShop (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=17278&merchantID=666&programmeID=2152&mediaID=0&tracking=) who have been fine as well, 12 months totally free, 4 cashback's throughout the year paid by BACS. The only thing with them is they take a few months to pay out as the vouchers are dated in a weird way. No problems though, just a bit of a wait.

Are people sending these things via Recorded delivery? This is the second time I've used Recorded delivery to the Carphonewarehouse and the second time it hasn't actually been signed for. I wonder why - is mail sent to this address treated differently or something?. Its probably not worth the hassle but I should complain to Royal Mail as this one and the one 4 months ago still haven't been signed for though they were both received.

I'm guessing the next thing on the Razr calendar will be choosing the point where we give notice for our contracts to be cancelled, right?
If it's 30 days or one months notice, I presume that means we have to do something shortly before the 11th bill arrives.
cjanderson
20-02-2007, 20:15
yep, think thats around mid April? think i had hassles last time with getting the pac code, it re-set the 30 days notice or something daft.
so i
got a new phone a month before old one ran out
gave notice to 3 that i was to leave on date of bill 11.
got them to change it to a PAYG sim on year 2 day 1,
then got pac code and transferred it to new phone.
As i want to keep same number, have had for 6 years now :D
Sent my Jan bill off (8th bill) to CPW by first class mail last week and got a text at end of week saying it's been received :)
Catherine which bill was your eight bill?

Andrew70
26-02-2007, 15:09
10 working days for the receipt confirmation text this time. They're getting quicker.
In theory, could I get this number converted to a PAYG scheme when the deal has run it's course? My bills show how little I use the phone and that I don't need a contract so I'm thinking having it as PAYG would remove the need to let people know I was changing numbers again.
cjanderson
26-02-2007, 15:12
thats what i will do
ring them on month 11 day 1, say make it PAYG
then can port number when i get my new deal running. saves hassle with having it line it up for same days.

Ive never understood the way mobile phone contracts work.
What i want to do, is after 12 months, stop the contract and get another elsewhere and port my number across.
To do this, do i give 30 days notice after 11 months/my 11th bill? If so doesent this make the cashback offer null and void?
Or, do i call up after 12 months? But by doing this, 30 days notice means ive actually been on contract with them for 13 months.
If I do as someone said they were going to do, call up after 11th month and say go PAYG, does this mean after 30 days notice/12 months my phone reverts to PAYG, without any penalties or cashback problems?

I had this dilemma with my contract last year. I was with Mobileshop and needed to send back the 12th monthly bill before getting my last cashback. What I found was that you can't port your number to another pay monthly contract on the same company (e.g. O2 moving to O2) so I had to port it to a free PAYG SIM that I had. I noticed that my bills had the following months fee included i.e. I was paying for each month in advance. THis meant that after the 11th month I had paid for 12 months and could cancel the contract (i.e. port to another phone) without penalty - a further bill came in but only for any minutes that I used over my monthly allowance. I could then send this one to get my cashback. I was then left with a PAYG phone with my old number on it. I had taken out a new cashback deal with O2 via Mobileshop and so simply ported the number over to this one. It took a bit of planning and for a short space of time I seemed to have three phones and two numbers but it worked out ok in the end. Which reminds me, the contract is nearly up again...
cjanderson
06-04-2007, 17:43
last time i sent in my 12th bill, this was sent to me at the start of month 12, for line rental in month 12, and calls for month 11.
I asked them to make the phone PAYG at end of month 11, so gave 30 days notice.
During month 12, i looked for a new deal and took it out.
Once month 12 ends, and old phone goes PAYG, i port number to new contract, which i can only do easily if new and old contract are with different mobile companies.
So for a week i had my old phone with old number to receive texts and calls, and would make any calls/send texts from new one. Seemed fine.
And i got all the cashback fine. :)

So what your saying is, as soon as i get bill 12, call up and ask to make my sim PAYG (is there a few for this?).
This will activate my 30 days notice, and at the end of said 30 days, my phone will become PAYG, but during the 30 days notice period i will still have my 500mins and 200 texts?
As soon as phone becomes PAYG, find a new contract, and port over PAYG number, albeit on a different network?
Have i got this right?
cjanderson
06-04-2007, 19:04
ring up 11 months to the day that you took out the phone. That will start the 30 days notice, no point waiting 2 weeks for the bill.

i have no idea if i got a total mentalist or not.
rung 18th April to give 1 months notice of end of contract, and that i want it to go PAYG at end of this time (ie i keep the same number).
But apparently you can't do this.
I need to ring on 18th may and on that day, i can immedictaly change from contract to PAYG. with no notice. which i don't really believe.
anyone know if this is true? that once i am out of the 12 month contract i can change to PAYG with zero notice?

Rang up and was told if i give 30 days notice, i cant port over my number.
However, if i ring up in a months time, i can then port it over.
Dont know if i should give 30 days notice now and have done, or wait.
Wont find another deal like this one we had...was good while it lasted though!

I assumed that if they didn't hear from us they would keep on taking £35 p/m from us with no further cashbacks owing.
If we leave it until the first day of the 13th month to contact them, surely we're one day into a new £35 billing period? Do they do partial month refunds?
cjanderson

i assume they could give partial refunds. But its just odd. I'm very suprised with them saying that on month 13 day 1 i can ring up and port to PAYG that day, with no notice.
perhaps it is true. But i have no choice, need to keep the number so have to wait until month 13 to do anything. worse comes to worse its £35 for a year of free calls and texts so still not bad.
Who wants to come up with next years deal :D the guantlet is being thrown out :D

Having had a quick cursory browse of the CPW site, it seems they have up to 7 days to provide the PAC code after you've requested it and it then remains active for transfer for 30 days.
If they won't allow us to transfer from one price scheme to another on the same network (bonkers!) I guess that means we're giving 30 days notice to close our dealings with CPW. That is the bit I haven't established yet though. Are we free to just cancel with CPW on month 13 day 1 or does doing that require it's own notice period? In doing so does the mobile number just die there and then at the end of the contract?
I suppose I'm asking, does our leaving the price plan with CPW allow them to retire the mobile number before the 30 days PAC transfer window has expired?
Alternatively, are there any implications with transfering out of the CPW a few days early?
I think I need to give them a ring tonight to get a few answers to questions like these.
PS
The T-Mobile PAYG rate seems to be very competitive - more so than I was expecting.
T-Mobile
Calls - 12p/min, Texts - 10p
Tesco value
Calls - 15p/min, Texts - 5p

please try and ring them again.
with me they said i can go PAYG on month 13 day 1, as soon as i ring them up. (thus keeping number, which i can then port at leisure)
be nice if they confirmed this to someone else :)
I rang them up today.
I can get my PAC or PAYG at the end of my contract which is 24 May (due to CPW delivering a bit late)
If I go to PAYG no notice however they put £10 credit on phone and charge you.
Other option is to downgrade and PAC over and pay part of the line rental.

so in effect we are charged £10 to go PAYG?
(as i'd be going PAYG, then porting asap, so take a week i suppose before old sim becomes inactive and i lose the £10)
sneaky :D

That's what they told me, I am going to change down to min tariff and PAC out immediately.
If you are getting a phone from 3, Virgin or one that you ring for PAC it would be a good idea to buy a few days before so you have the new SIM to PAC in on that day.

Mobile Rainbow has good deals, but ive heard bad things about them.
CPW and e2save have nothing really, except a 6 month free vigrin sim deal.

A question to cjanderson (the original OP), If you can help pls...
I signed the deal last year and getting my cash back on time from Mobile Rainbow. My contract is finishing on 6th of June and I have to give notice to T-Mobile on 6th of May. So my final bill (12th Bill) will come on 13th May and then I'll send it to Mobile Rainbow for the final cash back.
I have seen some good deals at Mobile Rainbow and don't mind signing a new contract after this one runs out (which is only a month away). Can I port my current T-mobile number to a new deal of T-mobile contract which I'll sign from Mobile Rainbow ? T-mobile says that you can not port the number to a new T-mobile deal or what's the best way to do this or pls tell me some tips or tricks....I would appreciate your help or anyone's input into this..
Thanks

you can;t port numbers from t-mobile contract to t-mobile contract. Or in fact any say orange to orange contract. you can go contract to pAYG with same people though.
So options are
1) port to another operator - ie not t-mobile
2) port to a free sim card and then back again.

Has anyone used SIMPLY3G?
They have some cracking 12 month free deals, such as 500 mins and 250 texts and a phone on Vodaphone.
Always wary of small companies due to the fiasco with forward cellular.

Just phoned to cancel my contract, I was offered 150mins/40txts a month and web'n'walk for £15.50 a month, as i dont make many calls but use the web quite a bit.
Sounds ok to me, but it is for the sim only.
anyone been offered anything better? I could go for another cash back deal and save a bit, but I dont like the look of the terms in the current offers on sites like mobile rainbow.

What do you see in the terms that is putting you off?
Im just wary in case company goes into administration.

I only had a quick glance but did not like how you have to send 4 bills off instead of 3 with CPW, and you have to use special delivery and only have 15 days.
Not just that but like you said there is always the chance of the small companies going into administration.

Well phone switched to PAYG today, so a new deal is being looked for.
t-mobile charge £10 to go PAYG BUT do give you £10 worth of credit on the phone so not all bad. i can request pac code as soon as the phone goes PAYG (sometime later today or tomorrow)
and then a new thread for the new deal :)

Had the same experience - dont forget to call them up and switch to their cheaper PAYG pricing plan - the initial one is a rip off - I think the one you want is "Everyone" or something like that with calls at all times charged at 12ppm.

Simply3g have 12 month free deals with vodaphone and up to 500 mins and 500 txts a month.
My parents did it last month. I was wary of them, but have been pretty much assured by people they are a reliable company. So im going to be porting over to that deal myself.
cjanderson
20-05-2007, 11:58
looks good but never heard of them before, so no idea how reliable they are.
I got a delete this text type message last night (at midnight) and have deleted and turned phone on and off but nothing has happened. so i assume its still not PAYG? doesn't seem anyway of telling, when i did it with tmobile before i think i got an extra menu item to get balance texts?
And aha, i logged into my t-mobile and it says i am PAYG.
so can get a new contract tomorrow :D

Just made my change to PAYG. (Ring T-Mobile and not CPW like I did the first time.)
Initially the guy wanted to invoke a 30 day notice period but I told him others had called thinking that was the case and they'd been told it was unnecessary, and he was quite alright about it.
Their menu system is a labrynth though. I'd recommend just going through to cancellations and sorting it that way but be prepared for the hard sell on other monthly plans to try and keep you.
Luckily my usage was so low they couldn't get near my monthly spend so they conceded quite quickly :)

Im on orange. Called up the other day and the guy said there was a 30 day period. Do you think Ill be able to skip this if I ring up again?
btw Cjanderson, do you know which deal you're going to get? I don't know which company to go for after the smooth time I had with CPW.
Just phoned t-mobile who said that i can't change to pay as you go and my contract finishes 28 may, can't get pac code til then either.....
so anyone any ideas on new ones to try for cash back?
out of interest i've just had e2save tell me their redemption is 45 days and not 30 as marked on their paperwork from previously so got a few more days to get my mum's one in and get money back.

got my text today to say they have my claim and all is okay.
And got my final tmobile bill, which just charged for 1 day of new billing period.
New deal is with One Stop Phoneshop (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=17278&merchantID=1157&programmeID=3329&mediaID=0&aff=future), a CPW subsid, and got a clearance Krzr with 200 mins and 250 texts on a free deal. claim in 5 stages, and have 30 days for each claim. was going to sell the phone but it looks cute so i may not :D
just waiting for number to port over now, as 02 don't give you any number if your doing a port, so can't use it until the number ports over. Not sure if that means contract starts on that date, anything else would be a tad unfair.
did you see they have the Samsung D900 with the 12 month free contract 02 200mins 250 texts. think i'm going for this - even though this is my current phone....
Saw that offer myself a few days ago and was tempted but put off by the fact that if you miss sending back one of the vouchers (or if it goes missing), the terms state you are then illegible for any outstanding cashback and so I'm a little reluctant about it myself

For anyone else who has stuck with T-Mobile as a PAYG customer, they've announced the following price rises from 30th July:
Everyone plan
Calls up by 25% (12p tp 15p)
Mates Rates plan
Calls up by 60% (5p to 8p)
5 day pass up 50% (£5 to £7.50)

My final cheque has just arrived - woohoo !
As for T-Mobile PAYG - when I cancelled I was told by the agent that I would be billed for £10 credit for the switch to PAYG - that has never happened - anyone else had similar ?
Not bothered now as have a new mobile and anyone who might have called now have the new number.
Cheers

Yeah I was told the same and it never happened. But I went ahead and topped up with £10 myself - which entitled me to free evening and weekend texts which was good.
