Time for a strange question. Has anyone else received DVD's from Loaded247.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.awin1.com/awclick.php?mid=639&id=30372) coated in what strongly smells of petrol?

It's not on the outside of the packaging, but has stuck together the cases inside and warped the plastic! I know they were a sale bargain, but the free petrol hasn't helped. Everything smells of it now including me!!

Well here's my response:

Dear Sir

Some of the titles from our suppliers had different stickers on them, so we used a little whit spirit to clean the covers thats what the smell is.

Kind Regards

Great! It's still highly toxic and flammable!

Discs are already inflammable and toxic. I doubt white spirit would make much difference unless you licked it off.

Sounds like they used more than a "little" if it was enough to warp the plastic boxes. And didn't you say that it's the inside of the boxes that were stuck together? Usually stickers are on the outside, excluding those harmless security tag things?

And solvents really aren't very good for the polycarbonate plastics that are used to in DVD's either.

Time to bring out the dictionary:

USAGE: The words flammable and inflammable have the same meaning. It is, however, safer to use flammable to avoid ambiguity, as the in- prefix of inflammable can give the impression that the word means ‘non-flammable’ :dork:

It was so strong that my hands smelt of it after just getting them out of the jiffy bag. It would have been lovely if my young daughter had touched them and then placed her hands in her mouth!

I work in the petrochemical industry and I prefer to use the correct English for obvious reasons.

Why is your young daughter opening your mail? :D

That's nice for you. You'd better take it up with the Oxford English Dictionary then! ;)

I was just saying that I thought this wasn't very safe and I would rather of had the sticky marks to deal with myself. My daughter does handle her DVD's, but fortunately these weren't for her. :)

Indeed, and there are products that are specifically designed to remove the gunge left by sticky labels that are not solvent based and are fine to use on plastics.

As I said, they must have really sloshed the stuff around for it to have attacked the plastic of the cases. I don't imagine all that solvent vapour floating around was healthy for the discs either.
