Spent the day talking to my uncle because he wants to put together a nice HT
in his new house.

He allready has a dvd player, cd player and today we decided on a projector
and some speakers.

What we didnt decide was an amp so I told him Id get back.

So advice time.

Important factors are....

its for 5.1 and stereo for music. Cant rememeber the model of mission
speakers now but basically we picked a stereo pair that had a complementary
rear / centre speaker.

Has to be silver ( gold is gold not silver)

The models we discussed where about a grand but to be fair money isnt a huge
issue just nothing super expensive.

Features wise Dolby and DTS are all thats needed (hes not got room for 6.1)

I realise an option for a decent 5.1 setup is to use a stereo amp wired in
but this is a bit messy overall he just wants an easy ro use looking system.

So any ideas guys??

What about a silver Sony 1070? A few peeps on here have one, though tbh i don't think they are brilliant for stereo duties it is a decent all rounder.Just a pity you didn't get one a few months ago for £299.99.

... that doesnt exactly sell it to me:D

come on what silver amp is good for stereo.

Less thinking of money (just no £5000 solutions)

I'm maybe doing the amp and you a disservice here. I depends on your expectations.I bought one for HT duties and it does the job i wanted it for, but all i am saying is it is horses for courses. If top notch stereo performance is sought then get a good amp and processor.I replaced a NAD C350 with the Sony. They are compleatly different pieces of kit but you will have to make a decision about compromises and work from there.Go and audition one.

yeah i realise that the ideal solution is a stereop amp and a processor but ive seen these setups and they are fiddly and a little awkard switching to inputs ajusting two volumes, extra boxes etc

But I also fugure that for around £800 - £2000 theyre must be a 5.1 amp thats sounds better than my yammy A5 in stereo. (which is poo compared to a £120 denon 2 channel amp I had)

theyre always a midway point.

Any yeah I sure will go audition a couple but I donmt have time to go listen to every 5.1 amp hence my plee for suggestions through experience.

There are, but it's whether they are available in silver.

Try the Arcam AVR200.
