i've looked on google but only found 8cm DVD camcorders. are there any full sized dvd camcorders out there?

Not that I've ever heard of. What would be the point?
If you need more flexibility than the small DVDs you'd be better off with tape anyway.

Also, a full size DVD camcorder is going to be a big beast of a camera. It would run completely contrary to the miniaturisation goals that the manufacturers pursue.

There is something new (http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-bin/shownews.php?id=8706) on the horizon though.....
