View Full Version : [BBC] Hannibal
Really enjoyed this 'docu-drama' on BBC1 last night. DS9's Alexander Siddig was in the title role and was just as good as the last time I saw him in an episode of 'Spooks'. It felt a bit like 'Rome' but with possibly less gore.
Thought the 'documentary' stuff was a bit light but was used to drive the story along at quite a pace but providing much of the backstory as narration. More of the same, please!
Oh, and the technique for removing a rockfall from the road was VERY cool indeed.
Recorded it, but not watched it yet. Can't wait though ...
There was also a documentary later last night on beeb one, which is being repeated on bbc2 tonight.
I watched this as well and was quite surprised by how good it was. I kept thinking of Alexander Siddig as Doctor Basher (from Deep Space Nine).
The BBC do make good documentaries like this, it is just a pity that they do not make more of them.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. Told well, some iffy acting and would have benefited from a larger budget, but that wasn't the point. It told the story and made it interesting. The Radio Times lead me to believe it would be a lot gorier though!
Alexander "Bashir" Siddig is always really watchable. (Is he ever going to escape from that role? Before you know it this thread will contain, "Isn't he the doctor in the new Battlestar Galactica?").
I put it in my sky+ but the only reason was for Alexander Siddig. I think he is a much underrated actor and wish he would get some more roles.
Will b an interesting watch, that's for sure.

The likeness between the two in uncanny :D
I enjoyed this but felt it was a bit lightweight. I suppose it's a trapping of TV filmmaking but then if it had been a big budget movie then we'd have had to put up with someone like Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt in the lead role which would have completely ruined it.
Missed this, but caught last nights doc on BBC2. It was pretty good. I didn't know Hannibal had was (partly) a caused the birth of the Roman Empire.
watched this last night, another excellent docudrama (after Krakatoa the previous week).
This is surely as good as it gets without going into full film mode ? Frankly I think I enjoyed it more than Troy.
Fascinating story, I never knew much about Hannibal beyond the headline stuff...... still got the following documentary to watch later.

I only caught bits of this (was watching 24 on Sky One) and only bothered because it had James Callis, er I mean Alexander Siddig in it. Looked okay from what I saw.
It also featured the bloke who plays Pete Tyler in Doctor Who as a Roman General.

I knew I had seen him somewhere before
