I just got one of these players at a cracking price (£130) but can't find a reion free hack for it anywhere :(.
Is there one or am i going to have to take this player back to the store ?
Many thanks for any help

No hacks exist at all for Sony DVD players mainly because of their links to Columbia-Tristar movie studios - would be hypocritical for them to include mulit-region. Your only option is to chip the machine which will cost a fair bit. For this player you need a 2nd chip to circumvent RCE as well (same reasons as above)

Thank you. Looks like it's back to the store with it then :(

There are several chargable options to upgrade the player

Do any shops offer the service to make this player multi-region?

A mate has one and he is keen to make it multiregion. Do Richer Sounds etc offer the service? He lives in the Warwickshire area and would prefer to take it to a shop rather than send it to a mail order company.

cheers,
john

Steve-www.dvdchips.co.uk - I've just checked out your site. I can't get any of the other pages to load from the side menu bar!?!
Your fitting service - what cost is involved? Just shipping to you plus the price on the web page?

That looks great mate...errr....how does it work ? :D
I take it i just point this remote at my player and it is garunteed to make it region free ? I then send the remote back to you and my player is still region free ?
Forgive my ignorance but this is quite new to me. The last DVD players i had, i just had to enter a code in via the remote and that was all.
I'm very tempted with this if it is a garunteed to work mate.
Please post here or email me direct at sib01@blueyonder.co.uk . I appreciate your time

It simply does work and is the same method as used by MANY dealers .... the only difference is that this remote is chipped for one use only ... ie you can only convert one player whereas the full unrestricted remote that dealers have will convert as many players as they like ....

Nothing to stop you firing it into a learning remote though :)

You got it Dack the Philips Pronto learns it first time just like it does with all the other remote hacks

Its no good for the macro

My Remote is as secure as possible .... it's doubtfull that a learning remote could read and store the data as it is sent as the signals are sent sequentially using a macro .. and who would want to risk their one chance at using the remote trying to copy it when they are supposed to be converting their player with it ... if someone wants to hack the Sony remote they would be better to buy the £300 one and then they have all the attempts they need try to copy the IR signals

Hi Steve,

I've got the Sony 525 - would this remote control work on my machine?

No it isnt secure Steve my Pronto copied it first time try it.

You use a Pronto or an RC5000 to do the philips machines dont you.

You will have copied the original delaer remote where you have to press 1,2,3,4,5 .... of course that can be copied but mine is not like that .. I dont own a pronto

If anyone is still interested in this then may I suggest having a search on google.com in the groups section.

Have a look for "Sony NS300/400 IR hack" - could be useful for anyone with omniremote.
