Watching Eastenders last night and the absurd Sonia 'I think I'll become a lesbian' plot it occurred to me that the quality control in all the major soaps Emmerdale, Corrie and Eastenders seems to have broken down. Storylines seem to drag on for months and plots often seem to be repeated. I think that the reason for this is that they are all on TV far too often. The pool of writing talent is too small to be coming up with good ideas all the time. Of course these shows are a cash cow for the companies involved so there is little chance of any change. I do think though that if Eastenders or Corrie were on twice a week then the standards would be a lot higher.

Corrie is basically a comedy with a couple of dramatic scenes every now and then. Eastenders should have given up about 5 yrs ago though.

It's always been like that Gareth, you've only just noticed?!

Like would martin (or any guy) be intested in Sonia? No wonder she turned gay! To call the writing pool "talent" is more than they deserve.

I've no idea why people are avidly glued to this tripe as they have got infinitely worse as the years have rolled by.

You don't even need to watch it as the synopsis in the TV mags tells you exactly what is going to happen and the newspapers tell you months in advance. They even spoil shows like 24 and Lost so for that they need a good slap.

The characters are ones that you don't give a toss whether they live or die, the premise of the situations are not true to life and the programmes are on with alarming regularity now.

Hardly anyone owns a TV - let alone watches it - washing machines are illegal to own in Albert Square and only bad people, villians and Dot Cotton smoke.

Oh and everyone is always skint, yet they get rat arsed in the pub every night and go to the cafe for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cups of tea even though they only live across the road.

i managed to give up soaps years ago, i find reading "whats on tv" each week is enough as that tells you EXACTLY what will happen each week in the soap.

So whats the point of watching when you know what will happen.

The whole "sonia has a baby", well that would have been exciting and a shock, if it wasn't for the fact that next weeks tv guies, with her on front with a baby, were on sale before the tv show aired.

The only soap I've enjoyed for several yrs was the crazed conclusion of the revamped Crossroads, when everything was revealed as a dream or something. It was like everyone including the writers had got their notice so they decided to take the **** out of the whole thing.
