View Full Version : Printer paper - what do you use?

Now that I've had my Canon IP6600D for a while I've noticed that the paper can alter its performance dramatically.

I'd be interested in what paper everyone is using and how it performs.

I've recently used Kodak Glossy Picture Paper (6 x 4) - It's absolute gash frankly, washes colours out, add grain where it isn't there and really mutes flesh tones.

Also using HP Premium Photo Paper - Nice, bright, not too expensive. The downside is that I like printing 6 x 4 but the Canon printer software doesn't let you print 6 x 4 onto an A4 sheet, although you can do 7 x 5 :cuckoo:

So, I'm after good but not ridiculously expensive, 6 x 4 paper, any recommendations?

I use Epsom Premium Glossy for my 6x4s - very nice.

HP paper is also nice, and although my printer is an HP8250, it seems to work better with Epsom paper!

The Kodak stuff is minging but it probably works fine in Kodak printers.

I found the Kodak stuff cack as well, and have had decent results with HP and excellent with Canon. So now I buy Canon.

You could acquire a copy of QImage which is supposed to be *the* print software.

http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=889 is very good from SVP Communications (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.svp.co.uk). Not noticed much difference between this and the canon stuff in the sample pack for my IP4200.

I've also used canon branded A4 stuff when I want to do (local) exhibition quality prints. Great results there.

Thanks for the input chaps - I'm going to get some Canon next time I need to buy, I'm definitely not touching this Kodak paper again, truly awful.

Although what will I blame for my crap shots when I've got good paper

IME with a Canon printer and ink HP & Epson paper don't work. I use Ilford Galerie (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.awin1.com/awclick.php?mid=530&gid=6083&id=30372&p=http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_2&products_id=7709) which I find gives superb results.

For people with Costco membership. The Costco own brand 'Kirkland' paper is supposed to be Ilford Galerie. But do check that the box says 'Made in Switzerland' as Costco don't source from just one supplier.

Ilford make their paper in Switzerland too and there are various threads on DPReview and elsewhere from people who have made side by side comparisons and agree that the paper is Ilford.

Big savings on Ilford paper :)

Edit : Just to add, it's ( I think ) £14 for 125 sheets and with the Costco guarantee you can take it back for a refund if you don't like it.

Blimey that's a brilliant price, shame I don't qualify for membership :(

I'll check the price next time we go to Costco.

Maybe, if people are interested, I could then get some ( cost + postage ).

I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm using costco's paper and just checked the box 'made in swizterand' and i'm very happy with the results on my epson and canon. Always used epson paper but Costco's are cheaper and out put same or better from what i can tell. Well I'm based in the midlands and if anyone wants some i could try and get some for them, but I would not try and send them as the box of paper is heavy and wouldn't have a clue in postage price.

Well, I called Costco and they gave me the following details -

255gsm
125 sheets
A4
£13.25p

Assuming, those details are correct, and we do make it to Costco this Saturday, who wants some?

Sam

I'll have a pack. Any idea what postage will be? Can pay by Paypal or bank transfer. For info' I'm off on holiday from Friday pm until Wednesday PM.

Weight.

A4 = 0.06237 Sq M

125 * 0.06237 = 7.796 Sq M

7.796*255 = 1.99Kg

I think :D

So, with the box it'll be in excess of 2Kg. Royal Mail Parcels is £7.70p for 2 to 4Kg  but there may be better options.

Bank transfer would be fine, but don't worry about it until after your holiday. let me know if you still want to go ahead. Perhaps others can suggest better delivery options ( if people nearby want to collect that's fine ).

I'm interested matey. Let me check some postage options too, otherwise it might be as cheap to buy it locally?
