Sorry, I'm probably going to look stupid, but what is wrong with him?

More likely a hacked account as all his other auctions were in Dollars, and he was US based. Now its £ and UK based.

Am I missing something - is this not a legit auction with a buy it now price in the text - or would the buyer refuse to sell at lower price.

Edit just noted a minimum price on some auctions

ehhh, been selling kiddies toys, now selling more electronics than you'll find in Tottenham Court Road? Emailed him about the £4,500 Krell amps he's selling for 1000 euros and he wants payment wired to Italy when he's registered in Arizona....

He went from selling the occasional kids toy in the states to selling a lot of electronic items in London with a "contact me to BIN" email address in the item description.

You are missing it is a hacked account, the person wants you to contact them using the email address in the auction, not the 'contact user' button which would go to the correct email address for the account, ie not his. Bidding is set to private, so the people can't be warned, all items are listed with very short times so he's hoping ebay won't spot them before they end.

Ah right, didn't look at his history, just his current auctions which didn't seem to be dodgy

His current auctions definitely *do* seem dodgy.

I agree it's a hacked account but ebay don't seem to be doing anything about it. Just wanted to know if anyone knows what ebay address I need to contact before a few niave people lose their money...anyone?

Why are you messing about here? Ebay is easy to contact if you click Help. Put "URGENT: Fraud" in the form header.

If you really want to stop the guy in his tracks bid $100,000 on each item.

If people are daft enough to fall for this then they deserve everything that's coming.

I have emailed them and told them it looked like fraud and the auctions break a few rules but they're not interested. Just wondered if there was a specific email address I could contact them on which dealt solely with fraud.

Anyway, did my bit and tried to stop him, not nice to let people get ripped off - not everyone is aware of the pitfalls of ebay.

The best way to handle this scam would probably be through the eBay security centre at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/safetycentre/?ssPageName=f:f:UK .

FWIW, I already contacted eBay security via this Web form, as well as informed the owner of the seller account via the "Contact the Seller" option.

he's listed a sony notebook pc,starting at£1.00,in the listing he says you can buy it now for 800euros quoting email at admaro@msn.com so i checked out his email address and this is what i got:

The email address admaro@msn.com is used by a valid eBay member with a feedback score of 0 (0% positive). We have not found a transaction between you and this member in the last 60 days. For privacy reasons, it's eBay's policy that User IDs are not revealed to members who are not involved in current or recent transactions with each other.

fishy isn't it

You did good :)

It's a strange setup as these items for sale are not entirely suspicious. I'm only saying that because someone has spent days copy/pasting and thinking it through.

I guess it's worth it if people send €800 to them.

What a stupid comment, would your girlfriend spot anything wrong? What about your grandmother? In fact there are members on this thread (and that includes me) who didn't spot anything even after being told by the thread starter.

So are they and I daft then? I could fall for this quite easily, I dread to think of those out there that dont know what to look out for and dont have the knowledge gained from a forum like this.

Anyway Im off to scam your grandmother because after all if she is stupid enough to fall for it she deserves all she gets. Plonker :oh-hum:

Yeah, that's right, nobody's responisble for anything any more.

Due to the threat of cyber violence ill apologise for calling you a plonker.

Your being disrespectful to everyone has been scammed in the past, however I can tell you dont care about that, perhaps you could slap some sense into them to ensure they dont get scammed again?

My point is, most people are greedy for a bargain and they railroad through any thought process and therefore deserve all they get. Fly with the crows...

Builders From Hell and Watchdog are produced for people that are too busy watching Big Brother and within a year the same idiots will be appearing on those programmes, ranting in here or using my council tax by annoying Trading Standards.

If my Gran bid on those Ebay items she'd deserve everything coming to her beacuse she'd have ignored all Ebay security advice and common sense. If she was ill or taken advantage of because someone stole money from her at her door then that would be different of course. I'd hardly compare registering with Ebay and doing a wire transfer to Italy the same thing.

If more people would think, it'd put scammers out of a job and would save people like Baz making attacks on someone with a bit of common sense.

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to put a heavier weighting for blame on the theiving scumbags, and less on the victims.

Just because someone is stupid, doesn't mean they deserve to be a victim of crime. People have a right to be stupid, people do not have a right to be theiving scumbags.

people do not have a right to be theiving scumbags.
They think they do and when people queue up to have their money taken off them...it get's very difficult to feel sorry for mostly greedy or stupid people.

Let's call them 'gullible' as it's nicer. Not that we will be offending them as they're too busy looking for the next <s>scam</s> bargain.
