After watching these again last night I realised they really should be in my DVD collection. Are there decent versions of these happy-go-lucky family films around, or will I have to make do with utter bum poo full frame no extra transfered-from-a video-that's-been-soaked-in-meths-for-5-months quality copies?

The Anchor Bay limited edition of Hellraiser is pretty much the best version of that movie available, especially the commentary with Clive Barker.

Braindead is uncut on the German DVD I think but apparently the picture quality is pretty bad.

The main thing with Braindead is remember to AVOID the unrated US version, as it is still missing several minutes of footage (check the Internet Movie Database for info)

Peter Jackson did say some time ago that he has around 600 hours of behind-the-scenes footage from Braindead which at some point he would like to cut together to make a 4 or 5 hour documentary like he did with the laserdisc edition of The Frighteners.

But when we will actually get it is anyones guess, especially considering a certain trilogy is occupying his time at the moment.

Well, for Braindead you can only get it uncut in Germany and Spain. I have the Spanish DVD. It's OK - there are forced subs though, so beware.

The print itself is about as good as the Channel 4 version. :brickwall:

I wouldn't bother looking anywhere else - the US disc(s) especially are cut to pieces.

i have the german red edition and the pic is pretty good considering the budget of this movie its uncut no subs with dolby surround 2.0 sound but expensive and hard to get.
anchor bay should get hold of it and do it justice it will probably happen as they have done Bad Taste just a matter of time

Toyed for months, rubbish, if you want a dvd you just ordered it, money doesn't seem to be an problem for you.

Jealous, me never.

Trimark have the rights to Braindead in the US. Here's hoping for a decent uncut release sometime. :(
