Contract is due to run out. So started looking around for a new phone. Nothing really jumps out at me right now. Always had Nokia's so mostly been looking at them.

Narrowed it down to the 6280 or N70. But looking for advice/opinions on them. Or any other good phones I haven't considered.

Thanks!

N80! Should be more widely available in a couple of weeks, but it's already order-able at E2Save.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=14992&a=60823&g=99367) and MobileShop (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=17278&merchantID=666&programmeID=2152&mediaID=0&tracking=) amongst others.

No idea if it's /actually/ in stock though....

Daft question, why the N80? What's the pro's of it, what can it do, useful features? :dork:

I think http://www.nokia.com/n80/ should work. It's basically a step up from the N70 in all aspects, higher res screen, 3Mp camera, Wi-fi, more memory (if I remember rightly) and has the benefit of the 6280 style slide.

Just had a quick look, does look pretty tasty

My contract goes at the end of June, so can hold out for a little while and see who stocks them.

Any 6280 or N70 owners want to argue the case with their phone?

Don't own either phone, But out of the N70 and the 6280, I'd buy the 6280

I've got an n70 (which is a fantastic phone) but I definately think you should get an N80

I've just gone for the N70 as I wanted 3G and it gets good reviews - should get it next week.

I wouldnt touch the N80 until its been out for a good few months and all the bugs are fixed TBH.

Furgy - what is it about the 6280 that you prefer over the N70?

I still don't know which one to go for lol I am right in thinking that the 6280 is the more stylish compact(ish) phone and the N70 has the better features?

Have read that Nokia's tend to be a pain with the first firmware version and usually requires an upgrade to iron out bugs. But I can get it done for free within the first year can't I? If I was to hold out for the N80.

Dimensions-wise there's not a lot in it between the N70 and the 6280 but the 6280 is marginally smaller. Personally, I much prefer the style of the N70 but that's just me :)

They both have a radio, a 2mp camera and a memory card slot, so you can't go wrong with either model. There is one very significant difference which made me get an n70 though, and that's the fact that it uses the symbian60 operating system - it adds PDA functionality to the phone and has hundreds of applications that you can download and install - things like TomTom satellite navigation, PDF readers, MS Office-pocket and MAME to name but a few. I'm told that the 6280 uses the simplified symbian 40 OS (someone correct me if I'm wrong here) that can't run these apps.

Also, the n70 has more internal memory (30mb) as opposed to the 10mb on the 6280. The 6280 has IR though. Like I say, they're both good phones but the N70 would edge it for me on the basis that it can do so much more.

I still think you should wait for the N80 though.

until the software update comes out for the 6280 I would stay away. I have an unreleased 3.70 and its great. The 3 customer launch was 3.36 and it was very poor indeed. I would not get an N70 at all - I hate that phone.

Not had an N80 yet to spend enough time to quantify it.

the N80 will be available on O2 on the 22nd, apparently :suspect:.

I have a feeling that the upgrade price will be ridiculous though.

n70 price will hopefully plummet now, fancy a decent camera phone for a holiday in 5 weeks.

OK, IF the N80 has WiFi, can you download SkypeMobile (Like on a PDA), and use it as a Skype-phone?? (Free "phone" calls from hotspots??)

More inportantly, could I use it as a handset for my wifi-PC/Skype at home??

I seem to remember that Skype was one of the applications demoed on it at a recent trade show, but I could be wrong.

Hmm...Interesting...... :suspect: I must find out more info on this....

I wonder how much o2 will charge as part of an upgrade?.....I guess it woudl be best to leave it a coupel of months for th "rush" to dwindle...

Bump! O2 now have the N80 in stock and available for upgrades (well they did when I phoned a couple of hours ago and ordered mine anyway \o/). I managed to get it for £49.99, but my monthly spend has been stupid these last 6 months because I bumped down to a lower tariff to save myself some money, and ended up spending about double what I usually do due to the cost of out-of-bundle minutes.

Discount 750 which I'd just bumped myself back up to, £35 a month. 750 mins anytime cross-network with all calls at 25ppm after that.

The thing is, I thought I'd save myself some money by haggling on my tariff at Christmas (have been out of contract for yonks, just didn't fancy a new phone at the time). So bumped down to Discount 500 @ £25 a month and managed to swing a £10 a month discount for 12 months. Except because out of bundle calls were so much, my bills have been well over £80 for the last few months :( Paid off now though, especially as I get to keep the £10 discount until December as they originally promised

I got a 6280 a couple weeks ago and am very happy with it bar a few niggles.

There is dust under the screen already and the 2mb camera is a bit short on features but the screen is fantastic and OS miles better than my old 6630. Its fast and responsive and very easy to navigate and my 3.70 firmware is rock solid.

And I really like the look of it, especially coming after the freakish looking 6630.

Update. Got myself a shiny new N80 yesterday. Lovely phone I must say. Will need to give it some time to see if there are any probs.

Only hassle so far is the damn PC Suite Software won't allow me to connect my phone!

You'd probably be best off getting it on a new contract, E2Save.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=14992&a=60823&g=99367) have it here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=14992&a=60823&g=99367&url=http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=o2&handset=N80) for free on a £35 a month contract (o2 250) and some cashback to the value of 4 months half price line rental. But then again, some people have got blinding deals by phoning up and haggling so its worth a go :)

EDIT: Oh hang on, I just realised you might be talking about the Orange 50 minutes a day tariff in which case that won't be enough minutes for you :(

Well it was definitely in stock this morning, I spoke to one person first thing who offered it for £49.99, thought I'd wait to find a better deal, then changed my mind and spoke to someone else who didn't even bother checking before telling me that they weren't out till the 22nd May. After putting the phone down I had a think and realised the girl in the morning was trying quite hard to convince me that was the best deal they could do and get me to take it then and there, so I phoned back again half an hour later and asked the lady to check the stock based on the above and sure enough they were showing as in stock and ready to be ordered, so I got me one :)

Different to what I got told, I rang just after this was posted, as i've been negotiating an upgrade for the past couple of weeks and the manager i've been talking to in retentions told me they definately weren't in stock and hadn't been. I said someone had ordered one today and he said if they have it will be a long wait as they definately haven't got any yet.

The only thing he mentioned was that they were online retentions, and if it was a retail upgrade (ie not an online contract) their stock is different.

Ah that's probably it, I don't have an online contract.

Gah! Guess what, turns out the upgrades system got frelled on Wednesday and they spent the last two days trying to sort it out... and when I checked my order this afternoon someone had cancelled it in the meantime and stock won't be in now till the 5th June :'(

Luckily I got my PAC code, if it appears on o2.co.uk before then I'll probably get it on one of those 1000 minute a month contracts.
