After two years happy enjoyment of R2 DVDs I'm considering having my player made R1 compatible.

I have a Pioneer 717 for which I believe no software hack is available and thus am exploring options on having the machine chipped.

Anyone out there with advice and/or experience of having a machine chipped. Suggestions for who can do the work effectively and economically would be much appreicated.

just bought a new dvd player to replace my trusted (& chipped) Pioneer 717.

yes, there is no remote hack for the 717...
I never had any problems with the player and the chipping.

mine was manual (press menu-> condition--> region code etc).
but there are auto region hacks for the 717, both are RCE compatible.

not sure who you'd get to chip in the cumbria area though if you want someone local.

www.dvdchips.co.uk are advertising on this very page so they should be okay... might be worth asking in the supplier forum for info on them and any other reliable companies doing a fitting service with insured return delivery (techtronics have had recent bad press supposedly).
