Could not see this already posted - least hope not :(

Anyway, looking to buy a 360 and saw this advert today in HMV.

Could not see any catches - 10% off the 360 if you take out an HMV card.

Saves you around £30 if you get a game with it and can just pay the balance off and close the card straight away I think - so seems pretty good - UNLESS ANYONE KNOWS OF ANY CATCHES THAT I DID NOT SPOT

Although do not see any mention of it online

Its a store card. You will have 30 days to pay it off otherwise they start to charge interest. You will get 10% off everything for your first purchase. Definately not a bargain as most large stores (Debenhams, etc) all have their own store cards.

Do HMV also offer a student discount?

HMV do offer a student discount of 10%, but i imagine you won't be able to use it in conjunction with this offer.

I'd say 10% off a 360 is a bargain and also 30 days interest free credit to pay for it!

I do agree on that point, but we might as well start similiar threads for Debenhams, River Island, Next and so on to get 10% off too... And Debenhams' offer of 10% lasts for one week.

This something on-going rather than a promotion. Just as a warning though, pay it off as soon as the bill arrives as the APR is normally up around the 25% mark.

do hmv do any bundles in store or is it just the console?

The HMV website (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=18710&a=60823&g=280345) has the premium console listed for £284.99 - don't know if its the same price instore.

i bought a 360 with ghost recon from HMV instore for 299 a few weeks back

Yeah, the guy from the Liverpool store said I could get the 360 premium and Ghost Recon for £270 with 4 months interest free credit. Alternitavely, I can get the console on its own for £252.

I am seriously thinking about it

zorro

Yep - they do bundles and the 10% comes off the total cost

Can't see what the issue is about this post from some people

At the end of the day, I am looking to buy an XBOX360 and if I get it with GRAW for example, I can get it for £270 - pretty sure you will not get that cheaper anywhere at the moment

So a bargain as far as I can see - simply pay off the card straight away to avoid any interest charges. :)

uber bargain. if you sign up for a points cardv(free) you'll also get £15 of your next purchase.

This effectively means you can get a premium 360 plus GRAW for .... £255!!!!

Can't believe no one has replied to this.

I know you have to get a HMV card to get the discount but £255 over 3 months interest free for an xbox 360 premium and Ghost Recon is a steal.

Maybe the thread title needs changing to make more people aware that there is more to this offer than initially thought.

Well it would be a good deal if you actually could do it!! :(

Went to HMV this lunchtime and wanted to get the Premium Pack with GRAW for £299 plus 10% off with the card BUT the card will only allow you to spend upto £250 and the guy behind the counter said that he had tried this for another customer on Saturday and was refused by the Credit Company, you couldnt even pay the extra yourself.

So came away empty handed and disappointed, any other good deals about ?

I got the deal myself.

Paid £19.99 on visa. Got £250 on interest free credit and £15 off my next purchase!

The nice chap at HMV said it is confusing to put through the till but he'd got the hang of it as this was t
he 3rd time he'd done it.

Binning, could you use that £15 off your next purchase straight away? I wanted to get the 360 plus GRAW and get Fifa at the same time!

binning
09-05-2006, 16:38
yes. I used it to get another wireless controller. Had to be put through the till as a seperate transaction but was done a matter of seconds after the first one had been done.

NOTE - You won't get a 10% discount on this second transaction.

Unless its changed recently you can do it, the assistant just has to know what they are doing. You only get 250 on the card but you can pay the extra by another form of payment and get 10% off the whole purchase. Basically they have to use a calculator to work out the total cost minus the 10%, then deduct 250 and ring through the remainder first by another payment method, then ring through the HMV card part, assuming youve been accepted

eg 299.99 -30 (10%) = 269.99, pay 19.99 by cash etc then 250 on HMV card all in the same transaction

i actually work for hmv and have done this deal several times, when u ring up u tell the credit card company its for a 360 and they increase the credit value for that transaction any employee at hmv telling u otherwise u should ask to speak to the manager

Well thanks for the replies guys, went to another store today and the woman (looked manager type) behind the counter had no problems with me doing this deal as listed above. I didnt even have to ask about the reward card, she did this automatically.

So thanks, Ive now got an xbox 360 with GRAW for £269.99, plus £15 off next purchase at HMV.

Got Sainsburys Nectar points outstanding as well, so also got PGR 3 from Argos for just under £8, so top day in the end :)

Also got some vouchers for CD-WOW, ordered another wireless controller for £25.99 and a play and charge for £8.99

Will the expense ever end.....??

Nope, cos Ive ordered DOA4 from a fellow forumite :O

Damn you guys ;)

Someone today told me he got

xbox 360 premium
N3 - saints row - dead rising

for £290 after he got the credit card (10%) and some other discount (also 10%) and £15 to spend instore.

he also said he then sold the games for £110 on ebay and so has the 360 for £165 which seems like a great price!

i didnt believe it but having read this thread perhaps its possible... anyone know?

What "other discount" would that be then?

Hmmm. Never realised we get 10% student discount in HMV, may go and get myself a 360 tommorow then!

hiya hmv employee u cant get 20 percent off anything, yes there is a 10% discount when using the hmv card and u can get a student discount of 10% but u
cant use them together!
there is a games card but that works on a points system and if u got a 360 bundle it could be nearly £20 credit for store use on the card, hardly 10 %
so this guy is obviously lying!! :suspect:  :cuckoo:

Ok, to clarify, you get 10% if you take out the HMV card and are accepted, max credit £250 so you have to pay the balance by another means, 120 days interest free credit. There is NO student discount on consoles or bundles. The Games reward card gives you 10 points for every £1 spent, each 1000 is worth £5 on future games purchases.(only redemable in £5 blocks) Youi get 500 points for registering the card (email required) Best current bundle is 2 of 4 selected games + 1 other for £350 ( cant remember the 4 selected games). If you get any other discount you are just lucky because they dont know what they are doing. You can also get extra points (£5/£10) for buying titles in the top 5 360 chart (HMV), dont know if theis applies to games purchased in bundles though.

Oh you should also get a leaflet for a Orange Sim card (worth £30 i think) when you spend £10 on games

GZEROPRO
15-09-2006, 21:09
what sort of orange sim card is worth £30?

also they can ring cc company and extend credit to £350

also games are saints row, N3, GP06 and PDZ
