I have just orderd online a Toshiba SD-900E DVD player, as i have herd that it is the best DVD player out at the momnet, i have a Toshiba 42" Widescreen RP TV. (42WH18B)

What is the best way to connect the two together ?.

I have herd that Component connection is better than RGB scart is this true, I am using a QED SQUART (RGB ONLY) at the moment to connect my RP tv to my Panasonic A7. While i wait for my Tosh to arive.

also, i have a Yamaha A2 Amp, is there a better amp availible, i know about the AX1 & AX2, but have been told that is not worth me upgrading to one of them is this true.

Also does anyone know where i can fnd the user manual for the SD-900E DVD player it is not on Toshiba's Web site

Thanks for any help.

I'd always advocate connecting via component video over RGB, although there is an argument that there's not much difference between the two - in fact there is :

RGB - red, green and blue colour signals transferred separetly from DVD to TV but no control over brightness

Component - signal split down into brightness (Y), everything except red (Pr) and everything except Blue (Pb) - same quality as RGB except user can adjust brightness to suit.

I think on an RP telly the ability to alter brightness is a must :)

Turning to your choice of amp, I'd say stick with the A2 for the time being, and wait for the next set of Yammy amps to come out, which will feature Dolby ProLogic 2 - the first is the RXV1200RDS due out in Feb/March, closely followed by the RXV2200RDS later next year - I suspect the '2200 will be all-singin', all-dancin'.

Alternatively cash in your A2, and go for the Denon AVR3802 - at £800 a true gem of an AV amp with every sound format imaginable.

if you use component, you'll also leave an extra RGB scart socket for a console or digibox etc...
