need amplifier for DVD and TV

Trying to get a good quality Surround sound amp for the DVD player/TV/Sky + but I don't want to spend too much £££££££££££'s by going into Richer Sounds and buy a brand new one. I've been browsing on EBAY and think I can get a bargain for less than £100 if I look hard enough.

Is this something which can deliver good surround sound (with the help of the right speakers of course)

Is there anything else I should watch out for when buying amps and/or speakers from somewhere like Ebay?

Well yeah.. if it breaks dow in a week you are stuffed. Perhaps try to view/listen to the receiver before purchasing it. But that means travelling around. Even new cheaper ones would probably be ok for you as I'm guessing you aren't planning on spending loads of a setup anyway. Something like this perhaps.. Don't know if it does upscalingto component but at that price its probably not on your list of requirements:

Or check the classifieds on the avforums. You can get some real bargains tere and I think you've got a better chance of a good item than on ebay.

I'm looking at shifting my Panasonic SCHT15 - http://www.panasonic.co.uk/home-cinema-systems/scht15/index.htm

It's a lovely set up, only trouble is I don't have room for rear speakers, and there's no way to set the system up to tell it this so I lose the surround channel information, altho it may look like it from the picture, that's not a dvd player, only a reciever so you hook it up via optical/coaxial to your dvd player for 5.1/DTS

Bought in Jan, so hardly used
