View Full Version : Camera Obscura - Lloyd I'm ready to be heartbroken
Anyone heard this?
It's my favourite single at the moment.
I heard it on 6 music today and "obtained" the album this afternoon.
It's a terrific piece of female fronted Scottish pop.
You can listen to the single here...

It's out two weeks on Monday, with the band playing The Luminaire the night before.
I'll hopefully manage to get along though the gigs are mounting up again...

It's a very charming band indeed. Very much like Belle & Sebastian (only better if you compare them with the later Belle & Sebastian stuff). Tracyanne Campbell's singing seems perfect for this genre. Slightly cheerful and sweet but also very shy and sedate at the same time. This - combined with their knack for producing rich and hooky melodies – makes them a very appealing indie pop band. They've certainly been around for a couple of years now with their first two albums receiving considerable international praise. It seems they've slipped under the radar for the last 18 months though. I didn’t even know they were releasing a new album this year…. The new single sounds nice, thanks for the url.

Damn. Looks like my speakers have just gone up the Swanee. ANyhow, I had a listen to this last night and really liked it. They're much underappreciated.
But afterwards, I kept wanting to sing a Clash song. Is it "Stay Free"? The one with Mick Jones "smoking methols ..."
Course now I can't do a soundalike check ...
D.
It's not really similiar, although I can see where your coming from as the "Hey Lloyd..." bit could remind you (if you were really pushing it!) of "We met when we were at school...".

Heard this on 6 Music too - good track!
Been catching up with the bands other albums in preperation for tonights show.
I have to say that the new one is far superior with much better songs.
There are also no male lead vocals which is a change from previous releases.
If you are a fan of the band you are in for a treat when the album appears...
Brilliant gig tonight.
Got some good pictures which will hopefully be online tomorrow.
I don't know how old school CO fans felt this evening as nearly every song played was from the new album.
I couldn't have been happier as they played all my favourites and even finished up with a cover of the original Queen of reality TV - Sheena Easton's "Modern girl"!!

Really like the new song, sounds like they have got a bit more "grrrr" (Technical description!) I've got tickets to see them in Norwich in June. Did they do let me go home live, its one of my favorites
Not sure.
Don't think so though as I'm sure they only played one oldie!
Some of their new material is a lot more lively though their are a few slow songs on the new album including a waltz!
The best track is a 60's stomper - "If looks could kill".
It starts off like Guillemots "Trains to Brazil" then does it's own thing...
I think their next tour might be different set wise.
They are playing London again soon so I'll head along.
I was reviewing tonight for CD Times so I'm sure they'll get a decent write up...
Here's a snap from last night...

Nice bunch, supported them years ago. Singer's better looking in real life. Woof! Good song too - v catchy. Though bears something of a resemblance to "I never promised you a rose garden".

mucho fun had, good gig - about 1 hour 20mins most of the new album and a few from the previous albums(mostly underachievers), no let me go home though  They are still doing Sheena Easton's "Modern girl" and finished with Suspended From Class. Technically they are very tight and the singers voice is superb.
I wouldn't worry about getting there ealy to see the supports though!
