As I try to watch a DVD on my laptop, after about 5 minutes or so the sound will completely cut out. I am using Windows media player, but have akso tried real player which does exactly the same. The dvd's I am watching are originals and it happens to all of them.

Any suggestions folks?

It's not anything to do with the screensaver is it?
try switching it off and see if it still does it.

What are you using as DVD decoding software? Windows Media Player, and I think Real Player, cannot decode DVDs on their own and require some other DVD playback software to be installed. If this is in your case a trial edition of PowerDVD then I am sure that had a feature of cutting the sound after a few minutes.

What happens if you play back DVDs using VideoLan VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org/) as that has the built-in ability to decode DVDs without needing PowerDVD or similar to be installed as well.

Problem with VLC, although its always spot on, this one particular DVD i'm trying to watch, it has constant sound, but every few seconds it will skip.

Have tried reinstalling the sound drivers, but its still the same. Will go down the Power DVD route, and see what happens.
