View Full Version : HD Trailers via VGA?
I'm getting a 40 inch Samsung R74 delivered next week and would like to try some HD on it to show.
Can't be arsed with a 360 at the moment so was wondering if playing some of the hi-def encoded Apple trailers (from http://www.davestrailerpage.co.uk/ ) via VGA would actually work?
Thanks
Good Q, I hooked my laptop upto my 32" LCD via VGA and played back some HD trailers. I could hook the main PC upto the LCD via DVI, but as the resolution (@ 720p) will be the same, would there be any difference?
It was a damn good picture, but then it was the trailer for Cars and I think that kind of animation always looks good.....
Works fine for me. Have a 32" LCD hooked up to my VGA as a secondary screen. Make sure it's set for the right resolution and you're sorted.

it depends on the screens...some lcd's have pc modes and work as a large monitor some dont, and work as a large tv :(.
LG and Samsung are two that often have proper pc modes.
Ideally you want 1:1 Pixel matching, so your pc outputs 1366x720 and the tv just displays it.
I tried some of the Apple encoded HD trailers via vga on my Samsung 40 inch LCD (has 1:1 pixel mapping to my ws laptop) and I was underwhelmed to say the least.
I played the Superman Returns one at 720p and it looked nice on the TV but certainly not as stunning as some of the high def demos I have seen in showrooms.
try the wmvhd ones or the ones on the xbox360
some of the apple ones aren't very good examples.
Tried the WMV ones and they do look far better - particularly the 1080p ones.
Can you download the WMV trailers & play them off an Xbox 360?
I'd do it from my laptop but it's not meaty enough :(
Cheers, Paul
you can download some straight from live...I dunno if you could download to usb key? or use that media connect thingy???

The only way, other than live, is using a the media centre extender on the 360 (requires a Media Centre PC of course).
Windows Media Connect doesn't do videos
