Looks like the 2002 unnecessary sequel award will be hotly contested, considering Scary Movie 3, Jason X, Austin Powers 3, and possible even (heaven forbid!) American Psycho 2 : All American Girl supposedly directed by Morgan Freeman.

Whatever next? Titanic 2, as Rose and the miraculously not dead Jack (now 90 years old) go off on a celebratory cruise only to hit an iceberg.

2002, year of dead horse flogging.

would the script be as "hilarious" as Scary Movie 2's was.

Note that this is not the Morgan Freeman, but Morgan J. Freeman who has directed such films as Desert Blue and Hurrican Streets (oh and he directed one episode of Dawson's Creek).

That really reminds me of the Hitchhiker's Guide quote...

"Are you *the* Zaphod Beeblebrox?"
"No, just *a* Zaphod Beebledrox, don't you know we come in six packs?"

As a big Wayans fan (yes , all 60 of them ) and Dont Be A Menace To South Central.. being one of my fave films.. SM2 was nothing but a big stinkus.

One of the most unfunny movies of all times, it was like being garotted. The one scene i enjoyed was the Nike spoof. and that happens within the first 20 mins.

Im glad i saw the CAM version first, so i could hear the audience laughing at the bits that were supposed to be funny. And the girl who plays sindy.. oh please no.. at least Wayans' can act (Requiem for a Dream). And the parrot

"worst movie ever"

I watched SM2 and with the exception of the first few minutes (like the bit from Amityville Horror with the flies), every "joke" had been done before and so much better......

Not only that, they had about ten writers working on the thing - that's barely a joke each! It was a horrible mess that should never have been green-lit without substantial (IE complete) re-writes... when SM3 tanks at the box office, perhaps they'll see sense.

Well I enjoyed Scary Movie 2 and thought it was a lot funnier than American Pie 2. Still they are getting tiresome I don't know how well a spoof of LOTR will fare. I'm sure I'll go see it tho;)

It was a complete shambles wasn't it. Did the film run out of money or something. I know it was a ****** take on sequels but please :brickwall

i may have watched Scary Movie 2 on a pirated DVD, albeit one with half decent quality, but i was still able to realise it stunk. There were a couple of funny moments, which shouldn't be too hard to fathom with 10 supposed comedy writers -- otherwise virtually every joke missed it's very wide target (i'll usually laugh at anything).

The first one was ok, sharing laugh out loud moments, with few jokes that fell flat down -- but the second, oh man was it poor!!!

That said, i reckon the third one may work, seeing how it's lampooing recent films that haven't yet been lampooned yet officialy, and there should be huge amounts of fresh material available. The Wayans have done some great stuff, they may still have it in them -- i just hope they are able to rip LOTR while still paying their respects to it. But the fact that this WILL be a rushed production doesn't do it any favours.
