View Full Version : British Superbikes @ Thruxton

After deciding against the trek up to Oulton Park for the qualifiers and also today for the actual racing, I thought I'd check Thruxton's calendar last thing last night. Turned out the British Superbikes were on :D So off I toddled at an unreasonable hour this morning.
Piccies from various races (125 GP, National Superstock Championship, British Supersport Championship and of course the British Superbikes. Plus a few other random bits and pieces.
Know naff all about motorbike racing so couldn't tell you who they are :D
Was entertaining enough, but it was absolutely heaving come race time. Left after the first superbike race as I was getting frustrated not being able to get into good photo positions due to the crowds.
Plus I was disappointed with the (lack of) pit access. Lots of roped off areas, barriers etc. I'm used to BTCC where you can wander around freely (within reason natch). Ah well, got me out of the house :D

Very nice series Graham, They would have more impact if the image size was slightly bigger mate but all in all some fantastic images..
Post this (http://static.flickr.com/53/130254936_14c03c06fe.jpg) again with an 800 pixel size on the longest edge.
It will look terrific.. :)

Nice shots - I spy the excellent battle between Rea and Byrne, some great shots of Haslam (what a paint job on his lid this year), Tommy Hill before he threw it down the road, and the runaway leader Lavilla.
How unlucky was Harris in race 1, and then Haydon being taken out by his bike. Did you know that the top speed yesterday was 201mph on the back straight. I ride, and I have NO idea how they do it.

Here's a tip for future photography, mate...if you can't get everything in one shot, step back a bit.
I know you're only learning, so hopefully you'll take this in the way it's intended.

I'm not taking the ****, honest. The second pic of the second set has a definite purple cast to it. That's why I was asking if it was a crop or not as it's almost as if it's been processed differently.

It's lens flare - 17-55mm shot without the hood and very typical of that lens.

Nah no more - I posted all of em.
I might get to the WSB at Silverstone next month, dunno. At least you can get all the way around the track there - Thruxton's a bit poo like that.
If I do, I'll probably add to this thread and rename it something more generic.

Radiohead..
Having the bike do you ever go to watch the racing and mix your hobby of photography with a nice day out on the bike or keep the two well apart.. :)
PS: Genuine question mate, Stupid stuff is over now.. Sorry.. :(
Radiohead

I would have gone yesterday but I was out buying a new set of leathers. I usually go to the BSB at Thruxton as it's just down the road and the WSB at Brands, but it's a nightmare in a car and I wouldn't be able to carry it all on the bike.
Like GJ says though, can be tricky getting decent access because of the amount of people there. 120,000 usually go to Brands....
Ignore me - being stroppy. Don't be dissing my bike!
