I know that Dolby recommend you put the sub just behind your front speakers, but would it be "ok" if it went behind the seating position (behind the rear speakers)?

My amp is going to be a good 15 feet away from the front speakers, and I would need to fit a new socket nearby too if I wanted it at the front.
As I won't be cranking the bass up very much anyway, will the layout be alright?

The sub is one element of a cinema setup that can be placed in more than one location. While it is not as flexible as some might think, careful setting of the level and cut-off point can yield good results in a variety of locations. Just remember when you are setting it all up that the LFE channel from the sub should blend with the other speakers such that the listener can't pinpoint the physical location of the sub.

Yes, you should be OK, but it is worth experimenting several different positions.

Low frequency sound is not anywhere near as directional so can quite easily be 'lost' behind a sofa etc.

To keep the wife happy I have my two subs 'out of sight' - one to the extreme left at the front [forward firing so I have it pointing 'sideways' into the room] and the other behind the viewing seats at the rear [fired towards the wall so it 'bounces' the sound - as recommended in instructions].

Most difficult part is getting the levels right to integrate them with the overall sound so that they are 'balanced' with the overall sound stage.

Br prepared to make minor adjustments over several days to arrive at the ideal setup. :)

Cheers for the replires I'll have a play around with it when it's set up. The firing into the wall sound like a good idea.
