View Full Version : Best pocket PC for under £250
I am looking to buy a pocket PC for under £250, but the models I see recommended in other threads are sometimes discontinued. Can anyone tell me what the latest and greatest are?
The Dell (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=702&a=60823&g=19472) ones seem to be highly rated.

Is that the X51 pda?
The Dell X51 would be a good choice in your price range as would the Acer N50 Premium pda which is about the same price. The Intel XScale PXA270 Processor @ 520MHz is nice and zippy, plus the dual sd/compact flash memory slot means you have lots of choice for expansion. The built in bluetooth and wi-fi (802.11b) is nice to have as well, although switch them off if you're not using them as it saves battery life.
If you go for the Dell, I'd suggest you get your accessories from elsewhere though; memory card dependant on what you want to use the pda for - you can pick up a 1GB SD card for around £20, compared to Dell's price which is £56.

I got my 2 Axim X51v (624mhz) for £185 and £215.
Might be worth waiting for another Dell offer.
Anyone know how the dells compare to the HP's?
Which H.P. are you looking at? The Ipaq hx2490 is probably the nearest comparable model to the above Dell, but it's a little outside of your budget. Depends what features you need though. The Ipaq does have a bit better battery life (although if that's an issue both do bigger capacity batteries).

Yes, the hx2490 looks a bit out my budget.
I saw this pda (HP 1710). No bluetooth or wi-fi and a discontinued model, but going cheap. My question is whether it is a reasonable pda for basic use or is a complete turkey that they are just trying to get rid of it...

I am basically looking for something that is reasonable, but does not cost the earth. From what you have all said waiting for the Dell 51v on special would be my best bet as a similar spec HP is more expensive.
