View Full Version : Can different lenses of the same focal length have different DOF?

I assume not but I was thinking about this today and realised I wasn't actually sure.

If the lenses are set to the same aperture and they are an equal focal length (some lenses are +/- 10% of their advertised length) I can'tsee how DoF could be different.

The only exception I can think of would be if the lenses were used on a Full Frame and APS-sized DSLR. In that case, DoF would be different between FF and APS, even with the *same* focal length and aperture.

Yeh, I thought that it must surely be a question of physics and didn't really see how it was possible. Apparently there's some people in the States who are working on refocusing out of focus images. I think it was in AP a while back ad I suppose long term this might have an impact on the whole DOF challenge that photographers face.
