hi all,

Any one been to Magny Cours before?

I'm trying to organise a trip there in July to combine the Roger Waters concert (from Pink Floyd) and the French GP. I would appreciate any advice about seating areas at Magny Cours.

From the maps, the non-grandstand areas are: Enceinte Golf and Gradins Est. The latter is near the Adelaide hairpin.

The grandstands are a bit pricey for me, will these non-grandstand areas give a good view. I know there are some giant TV screens nearby to help out.

Any comments appreciated.

I've only been to the Magny Cours once and had a weekends access to all grandstands. We watched the race from Granstand G on the straight before 'imola'. On the Saturday we did walk over to the Golf/Gradins areas and i seem to remember that you did see a lot less from over there - mainly because of the lack of elevation that the stands give you. I think the Golf would be the better place to sit as you'll get to see them accelerate out of Estoril and i think you will just about be able to make them out as they pass back down 'nurburgring'.

Was thinking of going again this year, what with the the centenary year and the Roger Waters gig, it should be a good event. Never been to Silverstone (only the French and Belgium GP) but i'd imagine it's considerably more expensive than either of those two. Where do you plan on staying whilst over there?

Hi moby,

thanks for that info. I was thinking the gradins area might be better (of the cheap areas) since it is near the hairpin, but also with the possibility of seeing "over" to Imola, Chateau D'eau although maybe they are a bit too far away (given your comments about the evelvation etc)??

Ahh, accomodation, that's the next challenge. I hadn't really thought deeply about that yet. I know Magny-Cours is in the middle of nowhere, plus the GP will likely suck up all the nearby accom. plus its the Centeneray, PLUS its just after Bastille Day, so thing s might be a bit difficult!! ;)

Where did you stay when you previously visited??

Nothing swish. I went with 2 others and between us we hired a small van, parked in the track camping site for the Friday & Saturday nights and slept in that. Top 'n' Tail of course!
