Having previously watched DVD's on my computer and put up with what I would call a "dark" picture,I now find that it is the same played back on my new Pioneer DV-545.

It is connected up to an oldish Panasonic TX 25 inch conventional tv,via a scart which allows RGB.The picture is very gloomy looking with a greenish yellowy tinge.

The normal broadcast picture quality is fine .

So is this normal ?

Another gripe is that I feel as if I am being shortchanged with this letterbox format. It seems that I am getting just about half the veiwing area.

Any comments ?

Watch the film, not the black bars. ;)

You're being 'short changed' when you watch a 'pan & scan' version of a movie.
