Is there such a thing as an all in one lens that would be suitable for a Nikon D50 that would cover from about 20 - 300 mm AF at F1.4 (ish but not 2.8!)?
I know it would cost about £1000 but just checking if such a thing exists.

That would be a dream lens - but no!

Even if it existed, it would weight about 12 kilos with a front element of about 250mm!

You wouldn't get into gigs with it Lorne :)

Oh well!
Any idea what 1.4's are available?

Sigma 30mm f/1.4
Nikkor 50mm f/1.4
Nikkor 85mm f/1.4

All primes - zooms at f/1.4 will probably never exist.

And to give you an idea of the cost, the 85/1.4 lists at £850 or so.

I've got a 50mm one but I haven't found much use for it yet.

Too long or too short?

Andy - you forgot the Nikkor 28mm f1.4 so desired by SSB, that lists at a cool £1500 and has hand-ground and polished lens elements.

Expenses claim gone in then? :)

Here's one - not sure if it comes with a Nikon mount though :)

Ha ha!
Remember I've only been using a SLR for a couple of months or so and I'm still finding out what I need, how to get better pictures and what's available.
