View Full Version : Sony difference?
Does anyone know what the difference between the Sony KV-21LS30, and the KV-21LS30B which can be found at
http://www.sony-europe.com/view.x?prod=23005&cat=12629&tech&loc=eu ...?
Thanks
isn't the last letter in sony models the country code?
Could be, on the sony website some models have B some have E but most have nothing.
I guess E could be European and B british versions, and nothing, ubiversal, but its a lot of money to spend on a guess, can anyone else confirm this?
There was a similar thread about a sony widescreen (grey import) a few weeks back and the code was definitely the country code. E could be Espaņa amd B Belgium? Since the sony product site seems to be a euro wide site they might just leave it out.
Yeh, anyone confirm?
I got a discounted Sony WEGA which the guy assured me was the UK model, came without the stand.
And when it arrived had a photocopied English manual and original foreign manuals.
U is the code for the UK and B is Belgium, which is what my TV is.
Interesting, are you aware of any techincal differences between the UK and the Belgian versions?
Ive seen the spec of the Belgian version and thats what i wannt...

There will always be different requirements for each country, usually labelling, power and documentation. Some think that a set destined for the UK is in some way better, but our European neighbours are no less discerning than we are. All the perception does is help justify the higher prices we seem willing to pay in this country! There should be no major technical differences between sets destined for northern Europe, other than the blatantly obvious such as SECAM capability for the gallic countries, and this may be purely software or firmware differences. Other than this and a 3 pin plug you should be fine.

I think the letter code at the end signifies how the firmware has been configured. Different euro countries use different PAL variants (except France), but the set can support them all (B/K/M/N/I etc) if you fiddle with the service menu.
The UK versions of Wega sets are also supposed to come with a stand to my knowledge. Probably something to do with the sets being heavy and the British standards authorities not trusting consumers to put them on rickety tables...

As Nick says the stand is a good indication of whether UK sourced or not. In UK all large Sony TVs (21"+) come with a stand or cabinet. Many retailers offer very big savings without stand (upto 30% or so) as these are grey imports from Europe. Main changes which retailer should do is supply English manual and change to 3 pin plug. Otherwise should work okay. Also check number of scart connections as on Sony DVD players not all versions from Europe have a scart socket.
