Russell Hobbs 10951 dual pot slow cooker (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000E5SPN/thedvdforums-21)
If you are in the market for a slow cooker, this is superb. I have been weighing up which to choose, following the prices for a while now. This is 30 odd quid elsewhere, was £21 then £19 at Amazon till recently - Now a bargainalicious £9.97. Gets very good reviews too.
I ordered two to get free postage.

I know these are designed for cooking things throughout the day, but can they also be used at a higher setting to cook in say, two hours?
I ask because I often do a stew which cooks in about 1.5 - 2hrs, but the pans I haven't aren't big enough and this is cheaper than buying a huge stewing pan! Unless anyone knows a bargain resource for pans?

Robert
I've been watching these for about 6 months now and almost bought this exact same model in the January sales for £21, I'm glad I forgot my wallet that day.
Such a bargain I got 2 and it was still cheaper.
Top marks to the OP

Rude not to at that price!
Unfortunately, what started as a hunt to find something cheap to get free postage ended up costing me another £55 :(
Oh well, If I read more I won't spend time in here finding more bargains to spend my money on :)

 Same happened to me, I ended up topping up the purchase with a DVD costing more than the slow cooker :D

These things usually only output 100-200 Watts of power so I very much doubt they'll cook anything in 2hrs (they'll just warm it up a bit)
They are excellent for stews as the longer cooking time makes the food taste better and it should tenderise the meat as well.
You just need to rearrange your timetable so you prepare everything 6hrs or more earlier.

cheers op gone for one of these

What do you expect, people on here seem to be buying two each! Less people will be in for a bargain.
...it would be just rude not to.

Amazon must have some kind of revenue optimisation system so the price goes up if there are lots of sales in a short time frame. Got mine at the lower price tho :D
Thanks OP
This is also on offer at Currys for 9.97 plus 3.99 postage.

Got mine on Tuesday.
A top tip for you people who get and usse one of these.
As this is a dual pot i.e allows you to cook two dishes at once if you cook one dish you are meant to spread it out across both dishes. If you are cooking quantities of food to small to allow you to do this, simply fill one dish with some water
Why fill the other with water? I just bunged everyting in one compartment..

Because the instruction tell you not to use the cooker with one compartment empty. They say thet long term use in this manner could damage it.
Aah... There was a lot to remember in the booklet of does and dont's! Cheers.

Just had a good luck through it again... Can't find mention of your advice at all. What page was it on?
I want to know if I can use just one compartment and leave the other empty as well, the manual makes no mention of not leaving one empty?
Anyone know the answer to this?
Maybe JOV's got a different model? I've just been using the one pot as before, seeing as I couldn't find it either.
mine arrived today thanks to OP
it's huge.

Mine arrived today - a lot bigger than I expected it to be.
Can someone tell me if the lid on their slow cooker fits tightly, mine seems to leave quite big gaps, is this normal?
Thanks
Nick
what do you mean by big gaps? It should form a seal.
There is a little movement, a little rocky depending where the lid is placed on the lip.
Looks like a used example too, doesn't look immaculate.
Looks like this one is going back.
p.s. If you haven't already take heed the warning regarding Dried Beans and being poisonous if not cooked properly.
* my god - it's absolutely HUGE ! you could bathe a baby in there ! (NOT recommended !)
* My instructions don't seem to warn against leaving one side empty (and there are lots of warnings about everything else - don't use in the bathroom  ) although it does say to spread food between the 2 sides (makes sense, and probably more efficient/cook evenly).
* mine looks mint - amazon box was perfect, inner branded box appeared to be factory sealed. Cooker was wrapped, no (obvious) fingerprints; power cord tied.
* lid - mine fits snuggly, but 'cos it's metal (rim) onto pot, I wouldn't call it a seal as such. If I push the lid to one side though, I can dislodge it sufficiently to form a small gap, but it's a weird thing to do. (I wonder if some are replacement lids ? Surprised that mine has no branding on it - anyone elses ?)
thanks again, dvd_vicar :)

Mine arrived a couple of days ago and was in mint condition. The lid does not fit tightly I.E. does not form a seal. I think it would explode if there was not an escape route for the steam.
The mother in law wanted one but they have gone up to £34.97. Currys don't have any left either.
Thanks dvd_vicar.
yeah not tight, but it forms enough of a seal to keep the steam and majority of moisture in.

Thanks OP, got mine yesterday.
It's a lot bigger than I expected.
May not send it back after all.
Wedding season is coming up - would be a night present for a couple how I'm sure can find something to do in the 4,5,6,7, hours it takes to cook stuff.
(hey this is my 101)
Maybe JOV's got a different model? I've just been using the one pot as before, seeing as I couldn't find it either.
Had a few slow cookers (still got 2) was always told not to cook on empty other than to prehaeat as it can damage the pot. The tip was given to me by someone who has the dual pot. Only trying to help .
Thanks for those that replied about the lid not fitting completly flush, out of interest my box also looked like it had been opened, and had fingerprints etc.
At the weekend the lid on mine shattered whilst in use, luckily no one was in the kitchen, but it was a pain to clean up and the nice beef in red wine I had made was ruined.
Liked the product though, so it's back to Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home?tag=thedvdforums-21&site=dvd)
for a replacement.
