View Full Version : Xpert Eleven DVDF League Season 2 - 1 more person required!

Greetings to those who do not know what this is all about.

http://www.xperteleven.com/ is as follows - Xpert Eleven is a football manager game where you manage a fictitious football team. The thought behind the game is that you compete with your friends in a league that you create yourselves. You manage your team/teams in good times as well as bad. Your tasks consist of selecting your team and working out some cunning tactical moves.

Have set up DVDF League - with ID No. 42009.

Now there are 19 of us that are just about to complete the 1st season of this and it has been good fun with plenty of banter along the way. This thread http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=399901 shows how it worked for the 1st season.

It takes literally about 5 minutes a day to deal with team selection etc and then games are played just once a week currently at midday on a Saturday. You do not have to be present for a game as they play out based on your team selection, tactics etc and you can watch the action after this time.

Currently we have 2 leagues - a Premiership with 10 teams and a Division 1 with 9 teams. These were generated randomly when we started. We know for sure 3 teams have dropped out of this and we are looking for many more people to sign up as we can have as many divisions as we like.

If you are interested then sign up and let us know in this thread so your application to join the league can be accepted.

It's good fun for the small time you have to dedicate to it and of course it is totally free.

Hope to see many new members for next seasons competition.

for the sake of 5 mins at a time a few times a week this beats the hell out of other fantasy comps its one thing saying henry and ronney in my team but to buy and sell its well addictive :D

Can't wait for season two

triple vouch for this excellent free management websim. Hardly any effort involved.

Some nice healthy banter going on between Managers and you can realise the dream of winning the league! albeit the Premiership, League one or any league for that matter.

Honestly, doesn't take at all any time to set up a game and only needs 5 minutes of your time a day if that!

Go on - you know you want to. :)

if your a fan of FM 2006 you'll like this...

No, afraid not. Well... read on...

The 'current' league will finish as planned. Then depending on how many teams we have for next season, that will decide if we have 2 divisions again or maybe 3 this time.

Every current team will have rank points and however the divisions get split up i assume it will just automatically arrange the divisions by the rank points.

I will read up in the F.A.Q.'s before posting more info at the weekend.

29 teams so far i think...

Would be good to kick off ASAP as we don't want to lose the momentum that has gathered and made this really good towards the end.
I looked earlier and we had 26 players. If we could make it 30 and 3 divisions of 10 that would be perfect

Bolch and Mandrill are now showing as Inactive due to not logging in for a few months.

So i make it 4 Inactive Teams...

Bolch
Mandrill
Johnson
and
Dougies X1

So with the 4 dropped out we still have 32 active teams assuming everyone else left from season one is going into season two.

Cheers. :)

How is the league going to work? Are we going to have a normal system i.e. Prem, Div 1 and Div 2? Or a pyramid one i.e. Prem and two Div 1's (champion from each promoted and play off between both runners up for the third promotion slot)?

I think Prem 10 teams, Div 1 12 teams and Div 2 10 teams. I think it will be better to have an even amount of games in each league and more promotion / relegation chances. This would also mean that 8 teams remain in each division each season..

Unfortuantly I don't think the league can be set up like that as it splits the teams per division equally. It's a pain. I've just posted a thread in the 'Ideas and suggestions' forum to ask if it can be looked at. Might be worth adding comments to the thread.

To answer your questions;

Yes they do.

Only 1 match per wednesday (your players would be too tired!) I think if I accpet your challenge it will schedule it for next week.

Train your players, experiment with formations and look out for good deals in the transfer market.

You will be offered players by agents (can sometimes be better value that way) or there is a trnasfer option on the left hand menu which allows you to search for players. Funds will be short for you at the moment so I'd save the money for training and maybe only make 1 or 2 buys.

20 max in a squad.

DarthPearce
03-04-2006, 07:39
It does. :) Whatever suits really. It will be interesting how the leagues shape up. I assume that your team will still be relegated and start in the second division.

The new leagues will be formed based on your rating points. So all the newbies will have no rating and automatically start in the lower division(s). The two promoted will still be promoted but if there are more places or people have dropped out then the higher finishers in the league 1 will come up.

From that I'd say you were a cert to start in the 'so called Premiership" !! ;)

I agree to two leagues of 16, 4 up 4 down.

DarthPearce
03-04-2006, 10:19
Either 2 or 3 leagues for me. I think the amount of games last season was about right so maybe 3 would be better. A 30 week season could see some strugglers lose interest and we'd have to go a long time with them missing in action then. 3 leagues would also mean 2 leagues to worry about relegation rather than just the premiership.

When do we get paid our prize money for our league position? I could do with the money right now!

A word of warning - evaluate a player before buying in the transfer market or you could get royally ripped off. I just won a bid for a midfield player which came up when I searched for midfielders with minimum skill rating of 7. He cost over £5m but now the deal has gone through he turns out to have a skill level of only 5 and is worth less than £1m. I can't even see who the agent was as it doesn't show anywhere. I want to avoid him in the future thats for sure.

Sounds fine although I agree with Andy about the 30 week season which could be too long.

Is there an option to play some league games midweek?

I'm happy to go with the majority on this one. 2 x 16 or 1 x 12, 2 x 10.

Professor Abronsius
03-04-2006, 12:00
We can play games sat and wed, but we would lose the cup tournament.

With George signed up now that is 33, so could close the entries now and go for 11 teams a league ?

With only 11 in a league I'd suggest the max relegated promoted from each league should be 3 maybe even 2. If you did 4 up and four down then the middle league would only retain 3 teams each season!

Should we go for maximum - 36 with 12 in each division and 3 up and 3 down... ?

So we still would need another 2 players.

Or just go for 12 in Premiership, 12 in Division 1 and whatever is left in Division 2... ?

Cheers. :)

Don't think it will let you decide number of teams per division as it will divide the number of teams equally.

I wouldn't want to have the divisions any larger than 12 teams, because if people drop out it will be a long time with dead teams in the league. 18 league games was just about right, so 22 would still be ok.

Here is some info from the League Admin F.A.Q.'s...

League systems
The leagues in Xpert Eleven are flexible in their make-up and the modul that creates a league can handle different types of leagues regardless of the number of teams. The league system one should use depends on the number of teams and also on personal preferences. We recommend you spend some time thinking about what your league should look like. There are certain rules that always apply:

1) The number of teams per series can never differ by more than one team. That is you cannot have 10 teams in one series and only 8 in another. If your league contains 18 teams and you want it to have 2 divisions the only alternative is having 9 teams in each division.

2) If the teams cannot be evenly divided into the series the higher divisions will have an extra team. That is if your league contains 19 teams and you divide it into 2 divisions there will be 10 teams in the first division and 9 in the second.

3) If the number of teams in different series is not the same and the largest number of teams in a series is an odd number that series will have 4 more rounds than those having one team less. Therefore one should avoid having a different number of teams in the series in a league if the larger number of teams is an odd number.

4) One series must contain at least 6 teams. However in the CL-system 4 is enough.

The 1:1-system
A league system based on the 1:1 model is a straight system where there is always one series in each division. The same number of teams are promoted as the number that are relegated from the division above.

The 1:2-system
The 1:2-system is a pyramid like system where the number of series are doubled for each division. The number of promoted teams in a series is half the number of relegated teams in series in the division above. To use the 1:2-system the league must contain at least 18 active teams.

The 1:3-system
The 1:3-system is similar to the 1:2-system but the number of series are trebled for each division. The number of promoted teams in a series is only a third of the number of relegated teams in series in the division above. To use the 1:3-system the league must contain at least 24 active teams.

The CL-system
The CL-system is a straight system where the top division consists of a group phase where 8 teams advance to a playoff with quarterfinals, semifinals and a final. The CL-system can have underlying divisions in a straight system where the number of promoted teams is the same as the number of relegated teams from the division above. To use the CL-system the league must contain at least 16 active teams. The CL-system is only available in leagues where the league admin is a VIP-member.

Opens up for some more discussion... ;)

If we have 3 divisions then it's 12 in the prem and 11 in the other 2. This works fine for me and I think we should stay with the 1:1 system.

Would you not prefer 12, 12 and 10 so there are no teams going without games some weeks... ?

A Premiership - 12

A Division 1 - 12

and

A Division 2 - 10

If we keep them even then everone plays every week.

May I draw your attention to following rule.

So with 34 teams we will have:

On the LH column there is a pools option, where presumably you can spend some money predicting score draws to win money to buy players. It probably explains it in the rules but I'm not going to start to run before I can walk.

There's also a forum where a lot of the simple questions are asked and answered.

We could just stop now and just have an unlucky 13 in the top division and 12 in the other 2. Did you not have 4 drop outs last season? If that happened again and they were all in the same league, that could be pretty disastarous in a league of 10.

Also, where - on the Xpert XI site - do I get a general overview and/or answers to questions like this one ?

Professor Abronsius
04-04-2006, 13:02
Right folks,

Premiership - 10
Division 1 - 9
Division 2 - 9
Division 3 - 9

With 3 up and 3 down.

Any objections then... ?

Don't fancy the other option as it would probably put me back in the Premiership.

Can create this as soon as it is agreed.

Professor Abronsius
04-04-2006, 13:06
Think if we hang about and discuss too long, then we will just get into another situation where we have to re think it again.

I am not going to refuse any who wants to join, and all applications before this post are processed. The more the merrier at the end of the day.

So if we agree to the 4 Divisions i proposed above then this is the cut off point and i will create the new Season straight away.

The arrows indicate the direction in which the players form is going =- so red down means high drop in form.

On the elft hand side is an option for rules which brings up a menu on the right with different sections.

Not necessarily. When you see a player rating of 5 for example it means the player can actuall rate anywhere from 4.5 to 5.5 - a player in good form will be closer to 5.5 and and one in bad form 4.5 - but a 5 player in bad form is still better than a 4 player in medium form.

Also look at the special attributes as this can be abig factor in a players overall ability.
