are the whites in this film supposed to look as washed out and glaringly bright as they are? it really distracts me from the film. i know some of this was intentional but does anyone else have a problem concentrating? i do have a minor eyesight problem that makes bright light very harsh to my eyes, so it could just be me!!

It's filmed this way. Actually it's how they develop the film, something do with more silver in the print.

Haven't seen it for a while but i'm sure there's a disclaimer at the beginning explaining that colours and picture vary due to the way it was filmed and to not adjust your set.

Good film though!:)

They bleach the film which can be done with differing tints - it's done in Pitch Black with a blue tint and I think even Oliver Stone's U-Turn (or at least if felt like it was).
I think the bleaching works to very good effect...it makes you feel drained just watching it but I'd agree that it's not to everyone's taste.
