View Full Version : Free phone and line rental deals
I'm in the market for a new phone as my existing free deal is coming to an end.
Carphone Warehouse (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan/TrackerServlet?p=443&a=60823&g=162274&url=http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/commerce/servlet/gben-pd-ProductDisplay?PN=SPECIAL.PAYMONTHLY.PMOFFER4&origin=SPECIALOFFER&tabname=): Motorola L6 in either silver or pink with 1000 off peak O2/landline calls and 25 off peak xnet minutes, 100 texts (all doubled for the first three months). £20 a month, refunded in three stages of £80. Plus get £20 cashback if you trade in your old phone! (the same deal from e2save.com including free itemised billing - £20.99 a month: Silver (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=14992&a=60823&g=99367&url=http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=o2&handset=L6)/Pink (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=14992&a=60823&g=99367&url=http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=o2&handset=L6PK))

BuyMobilePhones.net (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=17278&merchantID=751&programmeID=2496&mediaID=0&url=http://www.buymobilephones.net/store/merchant-4-63-529-Phones.ihtml): LG U8330 with 400 xnet and 250 texts. £35 a month (half price for the first three), refunded in three stages of £122.50.
All five are 12 month contracts, so work out free after you've claimed your cashback. MobileShop have confirmed that the two Nokia's are supplied unlocked, so if you're simply after a free phone to use with an existing sim you have - they're ideal!

And the offers that aren't entirely free, but not a bad deal!

Anyone had any cashback yet from mobileshop for last years t630?

I think there might be a thread in the Supplier Forum about that, if there isn't feel free to start one.

I have to say I've been quite impressed with mobileshop of late. When cashback vouchers are sent in, they email next day to say it has arrived, and email again when cashback is going to be issued.
I take it these phones will be locked to O2?

Doubt it, Carphone Warehouse (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan/TrackerServlet?p=443&a=60823&g=162274) tend to use unlocked phones apart from Orange and T-Mobile ones I think. I know my BT Mobile was unlocked from there and all the Vodafone ones they sell are (apart from PAYG ones)
Are there usually any 'rules' for these cashback deals? I hardly use my mobile so would probably not use anything other than the free minutes (if that) included. Would that be a problem? I had a look at the sites but couldn't see anything much about this sort of thing.

I'd definitely recommend MobileShop.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=17278&merchantID=666&programmeID=2152&mediaID=0&tracking=) - delivered really quick, the refund process is easy and (unlike CPW) they email you to let you know they've recieved your refund voucher and give you a date for the refund, straight into your bank account instead of a cheque. I got the 3120 deal back in September (almost the same deal, with O2, 200 xnet minutes, 100 texts each month, doubled for the first 3 months, £30 a month but refunded in 4 lots of £90) and have been very impressed. Not a bad little phone either, it's survived well considering the number of times I've dropped it - nothing fancy but does calls and texts and is easy to use, I'm happy with it :)

E2Save.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=14992&a=60823&g=99367)
Still have some good cashback deals on,I have a cashback deal that finishes next month so will be checking them out again.
The thing is with cashback deals is I would take less if it was automatically paid

After searching around I am struggling to find a small flip phone with a free contract/free phone combo. Does anyone know of one ?
I would prefer a flip phone so the screen is on an inner surface to avoid scratches from coins and stuff. I don't really care about a camera etc.
wouldn't touch e2save (part of the carphone warehouse) with a barge pole, they made a complete mess of my original order tried to put me on an 18mth contract and then claimed it was my fault they then sent the wrong redemption amount back which I had to chase for over a month and I'm still waiting for my second redemption sent 4 weeks ago! Please be warned their customer service leaves alot to be desired! Had my BT line with them (through Talk Talk) they were awful and rude if you could get through...lessons learned!

am tempted by this one but the lack of peak mins puts me off,
current deal is 100 texts and 500 xnet mins. Don;t use the calls that much but do use the 100 texts.
can numbers be ported to most deals? (currently with 3 so assume okay as long as not another 3 contract)

Porting is easy, just get new contract and then phone customer services on 3 and request the PAC code when you cancel contract

I'm in the same boat, I rarely make calls when at work - the way I look at this deal is its still far better than payg, as you essentially get all your weekend calls free (just not xnet, tho all my mates and family are on O2 anyway) and then effectively payg for your daytime calls. I was considering payg, but then saw this deal - plus you get the phone for free, whereas on payg you'd have to pay upfront for a phone. Its also easy on the pocket - £20 a month rather than others that may be up to £35. OK so they're refunded, but still your down that much every month until the cheque comes.
Once you've got the phone you just call/email O2 and they'll arrange the transfer, takes about a week. Just don't cancel your existing contract, ring them and ask for a PAC code - the transfer were automatically cancel the contract for you.
:)
I too am looking at that offer.
Looking at the tariff it mentions:
Monthly Tariff Charge £20
Itemised Billing (per month) 99p
Does that mean the 99p is on top of the £20 (that will be refunded) or is it included in it?
Oh and, weekends count as off peak do they?

True, i was going to go onto PAYG when the contract ran out anyway so its no different.
would you need to be working to get this phone? ie have an income? i may need to apply for one whilst still employed if thats the case. Not sure how long credit checks take to update and i don;t want to lie about annual income on any forms.

What's this about 99p insurance?

I believe itemised billing is optional, charged at 99p a month if you want it - it won't be refunded. AFAIK you can check your bill online with O2 for free anyway.
Off peak runs 7pm to 7am and all weekend.
Just added the 6030 deal to the first post. MobileShop have confirmed that the two Nokia's are supplied unlocked, so if you're simply after a free phone to use with an existing sim you have - they're ideal! :)
You had to go and add another option didn't you.
Was having enough trouble deciding if I need a new phone as it was.

Just been into the O2 shop in Glasgow and was offered a Nokia N70 for free, on a 12 month deal, with 500 xnet mins and 100 text all for £35/mth. First six months is also double minutes and texts, so 1000 mins and 200 text.

I'm coming towards the end of my year's free Mobileshop contract, and they were fine, gave me all my cashback so far as promised.
If I get another contract and new phone from them, d'you think I could keep my existing number?

Only if you are changing networks - if you stay with the network you have to upgrade direct with them (say O2) and take up any offer they make.
Last year I ported number from my old o2 contract to my new 02 contract via there web site. When I rang o2, they said I could only port a number from a different network to my new 02 contract. However the website let me port successfuly.

I think it's time to start claiming for this one ...
EDIT: Claiming the Cashback for those of you that took up the offer.

This may seem overly obvious to most - but after ordering - keep everything you were given - the despatch - screen shots all bills - photocopy and photograph everything - send everything special delivery. If you take all reasonable steps - then you can file a claim if they choose to mess you around.
