Well I manage to catch this on monday in Japanese with english subs here in Hong Kong.

Quick review to say its better than princess mononoke but a tad below totoro and laputa which are my favourites so far although I have yet to see kiki and naussica.

Spirited away tells the story of a little girl who is trapped in a spirited world because her parents ate some food belonging to gods and she is forced to work in a bath house run by an old bint who is greedy but fair.

Its a typical miyazki offering that will delight you as much as his earlier films but with with an original and thoughtful plotline.

Highly recommended and is on my list other highly sought after ghibli films on DVD.

Thanks for the report Cirrus - you lucky git :D

Anyone interested further should download this 6mb French Trailer for the film - it runs for 3:30 and is just superbly done (and don't worry, there isn't too much dialogue).

prolly a very stupid question but is it gonna get a r1 release? cos i dont want to have to pay the overly high japanese import prices.

I was at Oriental City today and picked up a guide to Spirited Away. From the many pictures inside it looked superb - lets just hope it gets some sort of theatrical release over here as it will be a long wait for the DVD.

I mentioned this in Kanedaa's Anime Co-buy thread. The Sci-Fi and Fantasy film festival in London mentions the showing of a "new Ghibli movie", but nothing seems to be confirmed. If they do go ahead with it, I'm quietly hoping it's going to be Spirited Away. Depends on how you interpret "new".

However, it's better to expect nothing out of this and be less disappointed later.
