True Romance Dir Cut????

Could someone confirm if there is any difference between the R2 Dir cut of this movie with that of the Cinema version on VHS.

My sister has got me this (R2) for Chrimbo and i'm a little confused with the info provided on IMDB. It states that practically every version is cut in some way.

So is the R2 the better/longer version?.

The DC has more violence than the VHS version.

Also I think the Left and Right channels are reversed on the DVD (or possibly the video) cant remember.

It is the complete version, although it still has one cut I believe - when Drexyl (Gary Oldman) is killed there is (in one version at least) a shot of Clarence (Cristian Slater) shooting him between the eyes.

I have the R2 version and am very happy with it... Cracking film!:D

The gangster beating Patricia Arquette is a longer and more violent fight AND Chris Penn gets killed in the shootout at the end

According to www.melonfarmers.co.uk there are 3 mins 3s of cuts to the non DC version:

Earlier versions had 3mins pre-cut for US R rating and a further 3s cut by the BBFC to remove a very brief shot of a woman being thrown through a glass shower curtain.

The original rental version carried a sticker claiming incorrectly that the video was uncut. This was replaced for sell-thru by the more accurate sticker "Original Cinema Version".

Drug deal in motel room: cut: several violent shots missing and dialogue about "eating pussy". Also cut Samuel Jackson telling Floyd that if he smokes enough sherm he'll be up there suckin' ******* dicks.

Clearance's murder of Drexl: cut: some preamble and several shots including the bullet hitting Drexl in the groin.

Hit man Virgil beating up Alabama in hotel room: major cuts: After 1st blow, 47secs cut Alabama gestures to Virgil that she will tell him where the coke is, Virgil approaches and Alabama spits at him. In response Virgil punches her in the stomach. Shots of Alabama observing her bruised body whilst lying on the floor are deleted. The scene ends on video when Alabama kills Virgil with her 1st shot. The original has her shooting 4 more times and then beating his dead body with the gun.

Shootout at the hotel: heavily cut: numerous shots of bodies riddled with bullets along with the dialogue "Take your ******* SA card and burn it you little cocksucker". Most notably the shot of Alabama killing the cop has been replaced by a Mafioso doing the dirty deed. Clearly it was felt that the heroine should not kill anyone and get away with it.

Overall, basically, the director's cut is the best version to go with... I have the R4 dvd (amaray - yay!), and it is the dir cut, even though it doenst mention it anywhere on the cover...

dvdtimes have a review of the r2 (and a ickle comment with the r1). Might be worth a check, it does mention something about the reversed channel audio.
