View Full Version : PS3 - delayed till November (in Japan)... what does that mean for everywhere else!!!!
Article here http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=63258
So PS3 not out till November in Japan, and surely a long time after that here. Surely by then the xbox 360 will really be kicking out some incredible stuff and have a great lead on Sony.

well if the psp is anything to go by then your looking at september 2007 and if thats the case the 360 and possibly the revolution will have a massive leap on the ps3 but you can never believe what sony say at the best of times.

Sony's having some kind of pr bash for thr launch of PS3 tommorow. There going to confirm the launch date and hopefully show some games off.
But proberly expect some empty 'emotion engine' style boasts to put folks off the 360.

if the console is that far of release for the land of the rising sun then i doubt there gonna have games running from an actual PS3.and like majestyk said it will probably just be full of empty promises, wild bull **** and 20 high end pc`s running together pretending to be a PS3  emotion engine, jesus that still cracks me up.

but that article said everything else is fine except for the Blueray side of things.

I can't remember which mag I read it(may have been edge) in but one of the PS3 games developers laughed at a spring release for the PS3 so it could be true.
Eliminates the hope of PES 6/WE 10 being Next Gen as well :(
Oh well that buggers up the Halo 3 release date,at least there should be no bugs that need ironing out and therefore Sony will be doing the chasing to get something to match.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if BluRay concerns delay Sony considerably - it was a pretty big gamble to push on that hard with it.
Worldwide launch in November! Excellent!

Worldwide launch in November! Excellent!
Yeah but what year
I don't care if it gets released or not. I've never been a fan of the 'Playstation' brand although I do own a PS1 and PS2 and Sony Corp. has taken a tumble in my view recently on the whole.
I can't get excited but the whole 'ooh it's a bluray player' thing either. I remember the whole PS2 DVD player episode a few years back. It is a crap DVD player and I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 is a crippled BR player.

I'm interested, but it depends on the price... I just read IGN's coverage, and to be honest, it seems disconcertingly vague - no new actual info, no actual details about anything, no concrete release date and no price?
How has this conference changed anything except to say it won't be coming out in Spring as we were saying as recently as two weeks ago?
Sounds like a delay wrapped up in spin to me.*
*unless all the detail emerges later in the day, in which case I take it all back.

Now that the release date has been "announced" does anyone know how long it will take for High Street Stores to officially open their pre orders?

I'm being pretty positive about this. Worldwide release. At least Sony have finally given Europe something. The X360 does nothing for me and I'm an avid gamer. Hi Def PS1 & 2 games??? Get in there (Just need a Hi def TV next)...
No worries about Microsofts lead here.

They'll only be upscaled to high def resolutions surely, not high def.

Well to be fair, Microsoft did release the Xbox 360 in Europe just 1 or 2 weeks after the U.S

whats the difference. if it's in Hi Def Res it is Hi Def!.
November is fine by me, I don't want to buy another console so early after getting the 360, and hopefully by Novemeber there will also be a big enough gap to justify owning both the 360 and PS3.
I might actually pre-order this for launch after seeing how badly MS handled the worldwide release.

A big difference. Try blowing up a small photo to a higher res. You'll see then !
The cheeky buggers!
Take out all the crap components from the PSP that you never use because well...they're crap (Headphones, 'carry case', 32mb memory card) and knock about £40 off the price! (Based on € > £ conversion)
:oh-hum:
And this made me laugh
At its PlayStation Business Briefing 2006 in Japan, Sony announced its production plans for BD-ROM discs (Blu-ray). Firstly, all PlayStation 3 games will ship on Blu-ray to help prevent piracy. In other words, no "cheap" DVD releases; Blu-ray only. Of course, it'll still play PS2 and movies on DVD, but all PS3 releases will be on Blu-ray.
Expect the games to be higher priced because of this factor, It will not help prevent piracy at all once the new Blu Ray writers are out anyway :|
November is a better release date than I expected for Europe. Will put a preorder down as soon as they appear in proper retailers rather than the companies that screwed up on the 360.
Is a November launch the worst situation for retailers if it goes the same way as the 360. I've been led to believe the 360 hurt the market last year since everyone wanted the 360 but couldn't get their hands on it, so they didn't buy as much stuff for the last gen ones.
Hopefully since the media is saying it can run Linux it should be possible to get all the desired video playback features.
A big difference. Try blowing up a small photo to a higher res. You'll see then !
I know it will blur the lower res textures, but technicaly if it's running in HiDef res it is HiDef.

you think they'll charge more because it's on a Blue-ray ad not DVD? I can't see that factor adding to the price of games, at least I hope not.
I like the fact it includes a 60GB HD, I think the 360 HD is too small, considering I only have 12GB left and nothing on it!
also PSone & PS2 games running in Hi-Def will probably look awful, am I right in thinking it would look along the lines of that Half Life Source, crap textures + good resolution = not pretty!
It doesn't definitely include the HD. I can't see how they wouldn't include it as it will be needed for all games but the Sony guy said "we'll see what the market dictates at the time".

Well it will be a new format, so surely the manufacture of Blu Ray discs will be higher than DVD discs until factory lines move over completely to Blu Ray?
Still don't like the idea, I doubt "Fifa 2007 World Cup is Over Edition" will fill a Blu Ray disc up somehow :D
PS3 blu-ray is just a way for sony to get the players in as many homes as possible, end of story

I was doubtful about it before, but this story on IGN has convinced me that the PS3 will take over the world!
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/696/696060p1.html
"At the PlayStation Business Briefing 2006, Ken Kutaragi has just added another infamous quote to his belt, this time stating that PS3 games are "live" and that the PS3 concept is "4D".
He claims that games have gone from 8-bit to 16-bit planes, to the "space" that you saw on the PS1/PS2, and now PS3 will be "live"."
That changes everything. The only question I have now is why didn't he say so sooner?

Exactly, and if that was the case then there'd be no point releasing hd-dvd or bluray as we could just use upsclaing dvd players and use our current discs.

Will konami not do one for pc or 360 and port it down to other formats or are they in bed/owned by sony or something.
Err..... no it's not :suspect:
HD == Running at a certain Res, therefore if a game is scaled up to run at a HD res it is running in HD. it may well look a bit crap due to being scaled up due to using LR textures but it is running in HD even if its not taking good advantage of the extra pixels.
HD is just a screen res, it's not some magical format standard.
Exactly, and if that was the case then there'd be no point releasing hd-dvd or bluray as we could just use upsclaing dvd players and use our current discs.
Most films will be exactly that anyway, upscaled from the 35mm film. not many films will have been filmed with HD in mind.. quite a lot of new ones probably but older ones... not a chance.

Probably the wrong thread for this debate, but I can't say I agree with anything there.
Just because its running at a higher res doesn't mean it's high def - all it means is it's high resoultion, which is not the same.
Also 35mm is high definition as far as I'm aware, that's what were striving to reproduce on our screens. So in essence all films in 35mm are shot with HD in mind, we just haven't had the technology to have it in our homes in a practical way.
I glad it will use HDMI tech, glad i haven't bought a current HD TV now then, i'll wait until they support HDMI, probably be 2008 knowing the UK before we see one though

Eh what? There oodles of sets out there to buy in this country with HDMI. In fact my DVD Player is plugged in right now using this magical moon technology.

Erm film is over 4k of line resolution so a transfer is basically downscaling to HDTV resolution.

Depends how it handles it, it could either just render PS1 and 2 games at their original resolution and upscale, or render them at Hi-Def res. It's not like a DVD where the images are on the disc at a specific resolution, so there shouldn't be any major technical reason that they couldn't be rendered at a higher res, though it might lead to glitches in some games if certain things have been designed for a specific res, especially 2D elements, though that will just depend on exactly how things were coded.
